Introduction

Steem greetings to everyone on this platform and especially to my fellow community members. Today, I will be talking about some errors some of our members do which in the end, create a negative impact on their growth.

I know that human beings are liable to make errors but there certain errors that can be avoided if we are aware of their negative impact on our growth. I have noticed both old and new steemians facing this but most common with newbies. Below I will explain some of these common errors that if we can pay attention to, then we all are following the right path on steem it.

Plagiarism and Wrong Sourcing.

For the benefit of newbies, plagiarism is the act of using someone else’s content without acknowledging the source or referencing it. This is a bad habit and it is not tolerated on steemit.

There is no need to try hard to paraphrase someone’s content when you can use it and add your reference. We are not saying you should not read other articles to write your content. You can read others articles to gain insight but do not hesitate to acknowledge the initial author. Give credit to the initial author you borrow ideas from.

I believed that most old steemians are aware of this since almost all have done their achievements 3 in the newcomer's community. For newbies, if you have not yet done this, then to better understand and familiarise yourself with this notion of plagiarism, read this https://steemit.com/hive-172186/@cryptokannon/achievement-3-mentor-by-cryptokannon-content-etiquette

Vote Casting and Commenting.

I have noticed that most of us do not support others with engaging comments and upvotes. Most newcomers and even some old steemians either vote to the extent that their voting manna is below 30% or they do not upvote at all. Some newcomers do not even know the importance of upvoting others and commenting.

We upvote others to gain curation rewards from the curator's reward poll. We comment especially engaging comments to make new friends on the platform who will in return equally support you with either upvotes or comments on your content.

Most of us complain of not receiving support but are not equally supporting others. You cannot be expecting others to support you meanwhile you do not support others as well.

While supporting others, pay attention to your VP. Always remember that each vote cast on a post or comment reduces 2% of your VP and will recharge over some time. Ensure that your VP should not go below 80% because it will take a longer time to fully recharge to 100%. Ensure to always check your account VP using this link https://steemworld.org

Posting in Wrong Communities.

Each community on steemit has a description of the type of content users should create. But some newbies out of excitement post without checking this description to see if the type of content they created fits the community they post in.

Take, for instance, you create a diary game content and posted it in the Crypto Academy community. You will never get full support on such content posted in the wrong community as you would have if posted in the right community.

Always try to check if you are posting in the right community. However, you can post any content on your blog without posting in the wrong community but I will encourage you to post in communities.

Wrong Use of Tags.

This is one of the most common errors steemians do. Most steemians especially newbies copy tags from others without knowing that each content has its unique tags to be used. Do not use tags that are not related to the content you created.

It is common among newbies and even some old steemians to write for instance Christian content and used the tags of a crypto or business or finance content.

We should often check the rightful tags to be used on our content. You can use up to 8 tags on a particular content but I will advise you to use 5 unique tags related to your post.

Don't Participate in Contests or Do not Respect Contests Rules.

Contests are organized to help steemians create quality content on the platform. Some steemians do not blog because they lack content 🥲.

Ensure to respect contest rules because the rules will apply when selecting winners.

Do not participate in contests just for participating sake but participate because you want to win. Read contest rules over and over and do not be in a rush. Failure to respect contest rules makes your content out of range. Check https://steemit.com/contestalerts/@disconnect/contest-alerts-active-contest-list-on-29th-july-2022-win-450-steem for contests in all communities on steemit.

Post and Comment Editing Several Times.

This is a common error done by newbies and I’m sure they do not know the implications especially when their SP is low. When you edit your content several times, you are destroying your bandwidth. In the end, you are unable to post because you are out of resources.

I will advise our newbies to always read over and over again, and do all the necessary corrections on your content before clicking the “post” button.

Conclusion

In sum, these are the common errors I have noticed and I know there are others that for now, I have not yet noticed. But I believe if we pay attention to the ones I have analyzed, then we are ready to grow on the platform. These are my thoughts and I welcome any constructive criticism or feedback.
