Greetings dear steemers!! Today was pretty exciting because one of my pregnant pigs farrowed today.

When i had just finished cleaning their fences and given them water, i noticed some traces of blood and in that instant, i knew it will farrow today. I patiently waited for the pig to start but it wouldn't, it just kept switching positions till i left. My dad got home later in the evening and told me it farrowed 13 piglets and one died. I felt like that pig didn't want me around at its birth. Nonetheless, i went there next and met it breastfeeding its piglets. Did i mention how sensitive and overly protective these sows get when they have farrowed?? Well this was the case with her, she wouldn't let me come and clean her fence, she was frantic at every human presence that i became scared at one point that it may bite me 😂. When they farrow, they lose appetite for their initial meal that they eat and prefer something spicy. This is just like a typical pregnant woman who like pepper soup after they have given birth. With that in mind, i cooked some cocoyams, added some crayfish, seasoning, oil and pepper. I took the food to her and she ate all of it. They can lose appetite for about three days and start eating back their normal meal. At this point, the caretaker had to be vigilant because the pig is fond of lying on its piglets unknowingly and if there's no one to get the pig up, that piglet risks dying. I am the current caretaker and when I get the least screaming, i run to check. All in all, i thank God for safe delivery and till now, all the piglets are still alive. I hope and pray that their mother doesn't hurt any till they are old enough to leave her sight.
