INTRODUCTION

I welcome all steemians in this community to the week 22 of this contest. The contest brings to our consciousness the efforts of the UN peace keeping force which tries to foster a collective action that is geared towards creating a world that is more equitable, just and sustainable for everyone.

May 29 of every year marks a day set by the UN to commemorate the officers and men who spends sleepless nights to ensure that there is peace and protection of lives and properties of member nations.

Theme For This Year's Commemoration:

Fit For The Future, Building Better Together.

It is on record that for the past 76 years, the UN peacekeepers have put immeasurable efforts in saving and changing lives in member countries the through deployment of military and non-military resources. Currently, over 70, 000 peacekeepers are serving in eleven (11) missions around the world.

The UN peace keeping mission has been resilient in their services to managing conflicts despite seeming unending insecurity and political instability in various countries.

THE COMMEMORATION OF THE UN PEACEKEEPING FORCE:

This year's commemoration held on the 29th day of May, 2024, at the UN's headquarters where the UN Secretary - General laid a wreath in remembrance of all the fallen heroes that paid the supreme price in the course of discharging their various assigned duties. The fallen peacekeepers were awarded posthumously.

THE ROLE OF THE UN PEACEKEEPING FORCE:

The UN gathers and deploy police and troops that comes from different parts of the world with given set mandates to execute.
The role of the UN peacekeeping force include the following:

• Promoting human rights in member countries.

• Enforcing rule of law and security in member countries.

• Prevention of conflicts in member countries.

• Protection of rights of civilians in member countries.

The 5 PRACTICAL TOOLS OF UN PEACEKEEPING FORCE:

Apart from the traditional instruments of Treaties, Mediation and International laws, the UN PEACEKEEPING mission uses non traditional peacekeeping instruments in helping to restore peace in conflicts or war territories. These instruments include:

• SATELLITE IMAGING:

This is used in peacekeeping to assist in getting the real overview of war or conflict zones.

• HELICOPTERS:

The peacekeeping troops uses this instrument in reaching out remote areas which would not be ordinarily reached and provide needed assistance to people in war or conflict zones.

• RADIO:
  The peacekeepers who are radio personnel uses the radio to provide necessary information like war or conflict threats, news , empowerment and educational programs. In overall, they use it to provide or give the situation reports regarding the war or conflict zones.

• MINE DICTATORS:

This instrument is used to clear landmines and help in preventing loss of lives. It helps to make lands safe and become productive to enable the communities to build or farm to ends meet.

The UN peacekeeping Mascot:

Description:

This design above describes the map of the world which denotes the azimuthal equidistant of projection that is centered on the north Pole. It has an inscribed wreath that consists of a crossed conventional branches like the olive tree that is in gold having a field of the smoke -blue showing all the areas with water in white.

CONCLUSION:

The UN department of peacekeeping operations has been involved in bringing lasting peace to war or conflict nations.
The peacekeeping mission of the UN seeks to restore peace and stability in various conflicts or war terrorists.

Their presence and activities had saved lives, restored peace, unified Nations and given hope to civilians in hopeless conditions.

Their work should be highly appreciated as their efforts are visible to be highly rewarded.
