MORTALITY IN POULTRY HOUSES

These past 2 days has been a hectic one as farmers keep crying of their birds 🐔 dying in their numbers and many are already pointing fingers at the Recent Flue in the West Region of Cameroon . But this is what I came to discover.....

Many farmers have lose sight and focus on the aim of production which is the meat and have given more attention to the Manure because the demand for Manure is increasing as the planting season is fast approaching.... Mean while some care little about the Manure but focus on the end produce. When discussing with them after seeing the errors in the poultry House I asked them in private , what did you observe before and after the death of these birds?
This is what they had to tell me ...
Sir they only became weak and some could not open their eyes, some don't eat..
Guess what I did after listening to them I asked them individually to get into the poultry house and stand there for 5 mins and come out.. to my supprise non of them spent up to 3 minutes there do you know why ....?

First the Smell of the poultry house was strong with the concentration of Ammonium Gas which has accumulated for a long time. secondly the room was not well ventilated so the amount of gas or smell to leave that Poultry house was very limited. Thirdly, the room had no space and so the birds could bearly have space to move talk less of air circulation thus making the birds inactive and Bacteria 🦠 infection increasing as a result of improper hygiene.

To reduce mortality I had to ask them to clean all the droppings and pack them in a back and change the bathings, Separate the Birds to two different rooms and ensure the windows are always open during the day . Meanwhile some treatment of Oxytetracycline and antibiotics and Vitamin was administer to remedy the root course

Lesson:
In poultry business be keen enough t to choose between the Manure or the Birds. And also watch out for the most important factors in Poultry Production which are
SPACE, VENTILATION, CLEAN FOOD, CLEAN WATER and EARLY IDENTIFICATION OF DISEASE.
