Covid19

The coronavirus is one frustrating event that has taken most of the time in the year 2020. This evil virus became a popular one across the globe. The worst aspect of it is that the source is not yet clear to people as the root of the virus has different thoughts and stories behind it but no genuine and specific truth.

The coronavirus has taken the world back in so many ways. I am a Nigerian and this virus has done more harm and no good to any of us.

However, there was a lockdown enforced to curtail the spread which has also proved futile but people are now allowed to move about and the effects of this virus are still vivid.

LOSS OF LIVES

This is the primary effect of this virus. Since the outbreak of this virus. The virus has claimed many lives and still counting. Sometimes we check the news and we see new deaths, if feel they are not just numbers but they are sisters, brothers, children and families. This has increased reduction in the world population seriously and unhappiness on the faces of the victims.

A FLAW IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM

Immediately the spread of the virus was noticed. The government asked all the schools and education sectors to be closed to reduces the spread because of the social distancing application. And this has affected many people, especially children. Even if they claim to have online classes. Not every child has access to the internet and academic materials.

For instance, I am a student of a higher institution known as Federal University of Technology Owerri and I have access to the internet but there has been nothing like an online class organized since the spread of the virus. If not for the help of some materials, I had during school session I would have been stranded in this period and this is the case of some children that cannot afford all these. Whenever school resumes the teachers would have a lot of work to do unlike usual to revive the knowledge of their students.

LOSS OF JOBS

The lockdown over here in Nigeria has been relaxed which has allowed some sectors resume work but because of the effect that the covid19 pandemic has brought on these sectors financially, organizations have been forced to let go of some of their workers to reduced salary cost which has affected many people badly.

INCREASE IN POVERTY RATE

There has been an increase in the poverty rate since the pandemic began. Many people lost their jobs, many businesses came to a standstill as a result of the virus. This has thrown many families and individuals into poverty because their source of income has been terminated.

The statistics of the coronavirus has not yielded any encouraging news or improvement. Everyone is getting tired as cases are rising every day and deaths. There are also many recoveries but the fatality rate is also increasing. And we are not getting any positive news from the world health organization.

These are my views on the effect of the virus over here in Nigeria. I just hope and pray that this would be over real soon and be written as the past. Thanks for reading guys. Stay safe, wash your hands, apply social distancing and other rules pertaining the virus prevention. Love ya!

Thank you for your participation. The issue of corona virus is very much disturbing. I wonder how many students would have forgotten about reading when there is no food in their belly. The online learning isn't effective too because it's not easy to subscribe when there is no food to eat. It's a sad thing that everything is on a standstill.

I just hope and pray that this would be over real soon and be written as the past.

That's our hope. Thanks for this piece. Stay tunned for another contest soon.
