The acceptance of twins in Africa after the believe of the old
Ideologies about twins always triggered mixed feelings in Africa and Africans.
Some people saw them as a blessing, some considered them to be possessing supernatural powers reasons why most of them were sacrificed in some parts of Africa like Nigeria, while some people saw them as an additional burden to the family.
In my tribe kom which is one of the fondoms in Cameroon northwest Region among the three fondoms popularly known as "Bikom" by people
we call them " mbwahs+" .Kom was not left out in some of these beliefs about twins. The " ilol herb strings" were tied around the necks of twins considered to a nuisance,to appease them.
Fraternal or identical, one could not escape some comments from people especially when two of them coincidentally fell ill.
I actually hated being a twin.Everything i had,i had to share with " chimambom an Ngam".they are very provocative .I whipped them eachtime they fight without asking who was at fault. It was when they started getting a mature mind that they realised howmuch they love themselves.
Special hello to all Manyis and Tanyis out there and to all twins.
