THE DIARY GAME : 09-August-2020 : The Quadri's Family Reunion (#Alajobi_2020)
The day started with a cool weather here in Ibadan, Oyo State, #Nigeria. It’s a day to always remember for me and my family. I was most happy because on this day, I got to meet members of my extended family I had not set my eyes on ever before (apart of Whatsapp though ;))! This was the very first time we were all gathering like this, although a couple members of the family were absent due to distance, travel restrictions and personal reasons. Covid-19 sure has a way of affecting everything this year. :(
The venue of the occasion was at my Grandfather’s house in Monatan Area of Ibadan which was quite a distance from where I reside in Oluyole Extension, Ring Road Ibadan. I and my siblings arrived there some minutes past 8am and I swung right into action.
At the request of my favorite Uncle, I had printed a big family tree some weeks before the celebration. The tree took me a couple of weeks to put together as the family is quite a big one!The picture below is only a quarter of the tree! This was the first thing I hung at the entrance to the building for everyone to see. Boy oh my, the kids were so happy to see their pictures and details in the tree and this absolutely made my day!
Moving on, since our grandfather was a practicing Muslim till he passed away, the family organized and held a Fidau prayer for the deceased and prayer supplications were made for every member of the family present or absent. The prayer session was swift and well-coordinated by the cleric in charge.
Soon as the Prayer session was over, the family and guests ate and drank. And another interesting part of the day followed. We had an introductory session where the family members present got to know each other personally. I can say I was the happiest in the family on this day.
My friends came over much later in the day and we were together for a few hours. We did a lot of catching up and I also got to watch members of the family tidy up their things and leave my Grandpa’s house one after the other.
The Family Reunion and Remembrance Prayers for my Grandfather is tagged "Alajobi Reunion 2020".And for those who might be wondering what Alajobi means, it simply means "A Bond shared by family Members". However this is my own way of translating it..lol. But I'm sure you get the message in the name anyways ;)
It was absolutely a successful day and a day to forever cherish in the hearts of each of the family members present! I look forward to Next year's reunion as it promises to be much more awesome cos i can't wait to see other members that were not chanced to be around this year!
A big shoutout to every member of the family that made this Reunion possible and successful!
Below are few additional pictures that highlight my day which I took with family and friends.
