PCB announces Rs 100,000 each for players' pension
LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an increase of Rs 100,000 each in the pensions of players in all categories under the Players Welfare Policy. After this increase, retired players representing Pakistan in ten or less Test matches will now get a pension of Rs. 142,000 per month. Retired players representing Pakistan in 11 to 20 Test matches will now receive a monthly pension of Rs. 148,000.
Similarly, the monthly pension of Test cricketers representing Pakistan in 21 or more Test matches has been increased from Rs 52,000 to Rs 152,000. Following the amendment in the PCB Welfare Policy, after the death of any former Test cricketer, his wife will have the option to receive his pension from the PCB.
Earlier, after the cricketer's death, his legal heirs were entitled to a one-time pension, which was equivalent to 12 months according to their category bracket.
The PCB's welfare policy was last updated in January 2019. Therefore, the PCB has also announced an annual increase in the pensions of retired players in line with the forthcoming inflation rate. Chairman PCB Rameez Raja said that he was very happy to announce increase in pension of players and other amendments in PCB welfare policy.
As the head of Pakistan cricket affairs as a former cricketer, Pran was expected to always take practical steps to protect the interests and welfare of current and former cricketers. He is happy that he has succeeded in fulfilling another of his promises and after these amendments, now the players' pension will also increase annually. Rameez Raja further said that apart from increasing the pension, the PCB has also ensured the safety of the widows of former players after their demise.
As a former cricketer, Siva knows how many sacrifices the families of the players make. It is believed that these amendments will bring satisfaction to the cricketers as well as their spouses. He said that PCB is an institution which values its cricketers. These amendments to the PCB Players' Welfare Policy are a testament to the PCB's intentions. They want to make sure that they continue to support him. In addition, the PCB already has a benevolent fund for the welfare of former players. The latest changes to the PCB Players Welfare Policy will take effect on July 1, 2022. Cricketers 60 years of age or older will be able to benefit from this policy.
