Steemit Engagement Challenge S7W3: Drawing my photo
Hello everyone, you are all welcome to my post. In this post, I will be participating in the engagement contest titled “Drawing my photo”. Thanks to this great community for bringing up this beautiful contest.
I will be choosing this beautiful photograph I took.
I choose this concept in memory of a great man in Nigeria by the name of Chris okigbo who fought for Biafra in the Biafra war in 1967. He abandoned his poet career to fighting in the Biafra war. He chooses war over his poet career.
I ask my friend to place his hand there and i composed the whole items there and took a photograph of it.
As you can see In the picture, a hand crosses over a book and pen to pick up a gun (the umbrella is what I used to replace the gun) I used my artistic knowledge to change the umbrella to a gun.
The tools I used for the painting
Oil colours
canvas
Brushes
Turpentine
Below are the step-by-step processes of the painting.
step one
This is the beginning stage. I’m this stage, i sketch out the image with my colours.
step two
In this stage, I started putting the first layers of colours. I made the colours very watery by adding turpentine to it.
step four
In this stage, I started putting the second layers of colours to bring out the form of the objects in the photo.
step five
In this stage, I started painting the background. As you can see in the image, I painted the background black. I choose to use black background instead of the background in the image because black background will project the painting out well.
Final step
This is the final stage where I brought out the highlights and did the finishing touches.
In the photo, if you look closely, I omitted the bangle in the hand. I did not put the bangle in the painting because according to the idea I’m portraying, those kind of bangles are not worn during the Biafra war.
The only challenge I had in this painting was when I was changing the umbrella to a gun but I’m glad I successfully changed it.
I will like to invite @preye2, @julstamban, and @temitopef to Jon in this contest.
I made the painting with oil colours on canvas.
It took me 8 hours to make this painting. I have to put the colours layers by layers and allow it to dry a little bit.
Thanks for reading🙂

sir-charles-jude, Friend, I see that you made a great effort to make that painting by the poet Chris Okigbo, that I see that he made a great effort and sacrifice to fight for his ideals and go to war.
You took 8 hours to carry out this work, your effort was worth it, I congratulate you, friend.
I send you a big hug from Caracas Venezuela.
Thank you 🙂
Wonderful skills shared by you
Thank you
Greetings friend @sir-charles-jude
I find it an excellent piece of artwork, however, I would like to see the complete painting "with the edges" and background of the environment.
Thanks for joining the contest.
Thank you 🙂
I invite you to comply with the suggestion of showing the complete painting, if possible holding it up.
This is the complete painting, the background in the photograph is very distracting so I choose to paint the background black in the painting to prevent any distraction so that all attention will go the message the painting is passing.
My suggestion is to "please" share a photo that looks like one of the following ways.
Okay
If you look closely at the image above, you will see the complete edge of the painting.
Ok friend, thank you very much
