One can speak of a before and after of Cuban women's judo after the entry into the national team of coach Ronaldo Veitía in 1986, seven years after the girls began the practice of the discipline in the country.

Before the arrival of coach Veitía on the tatami mats, the Cubans accumulated four bronze and one silver medals at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas. In 1986 they had a discreet performance at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santiago de los Caballeros and left without medals at the world cup that season.
After arduous training sessions and many ippones, the victorious path signed for the Veitía students would be opened by the charismatic Estela Rodríguez, the first to win a world title, in Belgrade 1989, where Maritza Pérez achieved bronze in 52 kg.

In 1990 dominance in the region began. The students of Veitía showed themselves invincible in the Central American and Caribbean of Mexico, a performance that they maintained until Veracruz 2014.
Based on the main results (Olympic, Pan American and World Games), we intend to show in figures the quality of this great Cuban coach, who retired from active sport in 2015, although his farewell was not made official until January 2016 at the Grand Prix held at the Ciudad Deportiva.

In 30 years of service in the women's national judo team, Ronaldo Veitía achieved almost 50 medals at world championships, 24 at the Olympic Games (five gold) and 48 at the Pan American Games, including 37 titles.

Among his main achievements are the first place by countries at the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000, the crowns at the world championships in Shiba, Japan (1995), and Cairo, Egypt (2008); leadership at the youth world championships in Dijon, France (1990), and gold at the orb team tournament in Minsk, Belarus (1998).

Also in capital letters was the performance in Munich 2001. The seven Cuban judocas returned with prizes: gold (Yurisleidis Lupetey, 57 kg), silver (Yurisel Laborde, 78 kg) and five bronzes (Danieska Carrión, 48 kg; Legna Verdecia, 52 kg; Anaisis Hernández, 63 kg; Regla Leyén Zulueta, 78 kg, and Daima Beltrán, +78).

In the heat of the Teacher's teachings, figures such as Estela Rodríguez, Odalys Revé, Maritza Pérez, Driulis González, Dayma Beltrán, Idalis Ortiz, Legna Verdecia, Sibelis Veranes, Yurisleidis Lupetey, Yanet Bermoy, Anaysi Hernández, Yalennis Castillo, Yaritza Abel, Kaliema Antomarchi, Onix Cortés, Dayaris Mestre emerged... And the list goes on.

Cuban queens who do not forget the tireless coach, the constant demands and phrases like "training has no fraud”“ "I am a transparent fat man“ or ”the champion is distinguished even in walking"... In the end, Veitía is still there on the tatami, helping them in everything and valuing the title that may fall for Cuba in an upcoming contest.
