Arsenal started their preparations for the resumption of the Premier League season on Boxing Day with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Watford. The weekend marked the return to training for those not in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup as eight senior players - Gabriel Magalhaes, Rob Holding, Cedric Soares, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, and Marquinhos were all spotted at London Colney.

While the team that started was a pretty strong one

Arsenal team:

  • Hein
  • Cedric, Holding, Gabriel, Tierney,
  • Elneny , Lokonga ,
  • Odegaard , Nelson, Marquinhos
  • Nketiah

Despite the strength of the team, it still wasn't enough to put Watford down and Arsenal went down 4-2 at their own training ground. This should be a concern for Mikel since this team should be the one that starts on boxing day since we don't know the condition of players that return from the world up and they are likely to either be injured or require a rest depending on how far their countries go in the tournament.

Having a game against West Ham on boxing day won't be easy and these players will need to step up and find some form should they wish to come out with 3 points once the premier league restarts in late December
