My Actifit Report Card: September 18 2021
After a late night doing trade stuff on options expiry, I was keen to do nothing. Forecast was for a cloudy day but no rain. My plan was to cycle down to a specific track to look for bearded orchids. I dithered around doing investing updates - clouds got darker like my mood. Did decide to get moving as the rain began. I grabbed an umbrella and rain jacket to walk the local track.
The rain pelted down for a while. The track became a creek. Life in England got me used to walking in the rain. Raindrops do make for different photo opportunities
Checked on the king greenhood. Main candidate is getting close. This one a bit further behind. Too bad a good citizen placed a log to protect them and laid it on one coming up in bud. It is all very well doing this but take care in the doing. This is the only location in the LGA - that plant may have been the survivor
Common ant orchids still going - raindrops effect
Not seen flowers open on the north side of the access track. Might have missed this one.
More raindrop action further along the track - still 5 flowers open
Love the light effect on this one - chiloglottis formicifera. Crossed to other side of the creek and decided to walk the length of the south side for first time since the track was built.
Last of the maroonhoods - pterostylis pedunculata
Last days of the white fingers orchid
Caladenia catenata show is ending for 2021. From here the walk was on new track - at the big creek feature they have created, someone has been doing some shredding and planting. The small plants are an alien succulent.
They have planted some trees too. I can tell this is not council work. There was a mechanical shredder left standing there - council would never do that. The council has a great nursery for native plants.
Close up of the tag tells me it is not from the council nursery and it is not a native plant. I shared this image in my orchids groups - they said exterminate.
This is a sample of the track work they did. Cut these drainage channels on the upside of the hill and pushed the dirt onto the low side. Mostly on this side, the orchids are on the high side and mostly out of the way.
Saw only one orchid bud on the down hill side all the way to the end. No onion orchids either.
Turned around and came back looking on the up side. Last year this time, there were heaps of sun orchids - none this week. They were early.
Did find bearded orchids in same spot as last year with more plants - calochilus paludosus
One emerging
The detail is fabulous
Hard to pin down ID when the dorsal sepal droops. The tape on this one is different to the other one.
Hard to pass by a pea flower without taking a photo, especially with raindrops
Turned into a solid walk with 4 orchids on flower and two possibles. Happy with that and it did not rain that much. The track work this side has done less damage to orchids than the other side.
Did some IM stuff implementing new software that helps make website links compliant with new Google spam link policies. This is a big deal if you have affiliate links on your website. Tool is a WordPress plugin that fixes that. It works well. Check it out at http://mclnks.com/linkfixer
Review video showing it in action is on its way
Planted out some seedlings as a token gardening effort
Dinner: Stir fried rice - simple.
