My Actifitivity: October 11 2022

in Actifit2 years ago

Tuesday.

Another fine autumn day. It's been a pretty golden October so far.

I don't have much to say about the day, but I will introduce you to yet another mushroom to fill this report with some value.

Let's talk about coprinus comatus, the so-called "shaggy ink cap":

This mushroom is quite common around here and it usually grows in great numbers. At a young age it can bleed bright red when damaged. That young age, though, only lasts for a day or two while the cap emerges from the ground and is still completely closed.

Technically it's a well edible mushroom, but you'll have to be quick. On day three or four when the cap starts opening, these shrooms start becoming rather gross immediately.

The cap will melt away into a nasty black slime, it is a rather uncommon way to spread those spores. It's really a sticky nasty black mess... definitely not appetizing at all.

On another note, I also came across the biggest parasol mushroom I've seen this year:

This thing, slightly past its prime, was humongous. Probably 10-12 inches, it could fit on a record player. Here's my hand for scale:

Thanks for your time!
