A number of names have emerged as potential candidates for governor and deputy governor of Aceh Province for the 2024-2029 period. Starting from the former Commander of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), Politicians, Actors to Entrepreneurs.
Several names have indeed been active in carrying out political activities in Aceh, some have even started seeking support from parties and even visited the community directly to hear and absorb the aspirations of the people.
The market competition for candidates for Governor of Aceh 2024 is also quite interesting and tight compared to several other regions in Indonesia. This is reflected in several survey results which show that all prospective candidates have competitive electability.
The 2024 regional head elections (Pilkada) are scheduled to take place on November 27 to elect candidates for governor/deputy governor, regent/deputy regent and mayor/deputy mayor.
Several months before the Pilkada, especially in the Aceh Governor Election for the 2024-2029 period, there has been no visible competition between candidates.
So far, there is only one strong candidate who is serious and very ready and meets the requirements to run for the 2024 Aceh Governor Election, namely Muzakir Manaf or familiarly called Mualem, the General Chair of the Mualem Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the Aceh Party.
Until today, we have not seen any other candidate who is ready and brave enough to declare that he is running as a candidate for Governor of Aceh. Even other parties, namely the national political party (parnas), did not dare to nominate a candidate for governor from their own cadres.
The leaders of the national parties in Aceh, whose parties can nominate candidates with a party coalition because they have won seats in the DPRA as a result of the 2024 elections, none of them have the courage to run in the gubernatorial election.
However, several names who have different backgrounds, such as politicians, academics, businessmen, artists and former commanders of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), continue to be discussed by the public today on various social media (social media) platforms as candidates for Governor of Aceh in the 2024 regional elections in November.
So who are the 2024 Aceh Governor Candidates who have strong influence and the potential to win? here's the review:
- Muzakir Manaf.
The people of Aceh are certainly familiar with the figure named Muzakir Manaf. Muzakir Manaf, who is familiarly called Mualem, is certain to compete again in the 2024 Aceh gubernatorial election.
Mualem, who in 2023 extended his position as General Chair of the Aceh Party until 2008, received support from a number of parties and community groups. It is known that Muzakir Manaf was an important figure in Aceh's history as a fighter for the Free Aceh Movement (GAM).
Born on April 3 1964 in Seunuddo District, Muzakir served as GAM Commander and then as Deputy Governor of Aceh from 2012 to 2017.
Recently Mualem also received support from Pro Jokowi Volunteers (Projo), Pro Jokowi Volunteers (Projo) announced support for the former Deputy Governor of Aceh, Muzakir Manaf, to become a candidate for governor of Aceh in the 2024 regional elections.
This announcement was made by the Chair of the Projo DPP Regional Election Desk, Roy Abimanyu, at the Projo DPP, Pancoran, South Jakarta, Friday (12/7/2024).
For information, the Aceh Party has named Muzakir Manaf as a candidate for Governor of Aceh. This local party can nominate its own candidate because it has more than 15 percent of the seats in the Aceh DPR.
- Bustami Hamzah.
One name that is currently being discussed by the public on various social media (social media) platforms as a candidate for Governor of Aceh in the 2024 regional elections in November is Bustami Hamzah.
Bustami Hamzah is currently serving as Acting Governor of Aceh replacing Ahmad Marzuki. The appearance of Bustami Hamzah's name was indeed very unexpected. Banners or billboards supporting Bustami Hamzah as a candidate for governor of Aceh have been installed in several districts/cities in Aceh.
However, rumors of speculation regarding the news of the acting governor of Aceh, Bustami Hamzah as a candidate for governor of Aceh in the 2024 regional elections, are still a question mark. Until now there has been no news that Bustami Hamzah has submitted a request to resign from his assignment as Acting Governor of Aceh, nor is there any news that the Presidential Decree on resignation has been issued.
Bustami himself has not explicitly stated his desire to run for the 2024 Aceh Regional Head Election. He said he would complete his duties as acting governor.
- Ruslan M Daud.
Member of Commission V DPR RI, H Ruslan M Daud S.E, M.A.P or familiarly known as HRD, again stated that he would run as a prospective candidate (Bacalon) for Governor of Aceh for the 2024-2029 period.
HRD said this in response to journalists during their free time while meeting with several Acehnese figures in Jakarta, Tuesday (16/7/2024) evening. The journalist asked whether HRD was committed to running as a candidate for Governor of Aceh for the next five year period front.
The best cadre of the Aceh National Awakening Party (PKB), casually said that he had established himself and expressed himself openly to the public and was committed to running as a candidate for Governor of Aceh in the simultaneous regional elections this year.
Billboards for HRD as the Aceh governor's candidate are displayed in a number of locations in the capital of Aceh Province, namely Banda Aceh City. Apart from that, it is also installed in almost all districts/cities in Aceh.
- Aminullah Usman.
Next there is Aminullah Usman who is predicted to compete in the 2024 Aceh gubernatorial election as either a candidate for governor or deputy governor candidate.
H. Aminullah Usman, S.E.Ak., M.M., is the 12th Mayor of Banda Aceh who served from 7 July 2017 to 7 July 2022. Aminullah was born on 1 August 1958 and had a long career in banking before entering the world of politics.
He served as President Director of PT Bank BPD Aceh from 2000 to 2010. Apart from that, Aminullah also has a history as a member of the DPR RI from 2004 to 2009 and a member of the Aceh DPRD from 1999 to 2004.
- Illiza Sa'Aduddin Djamal.
Furthermore, there is an outstanding female figure who is ready to compete with other candidates in the 2024 Aceh gubernatorial election.
Hj. Illiza Sa'Aduddin Djamal, S.E., was born in Banda Aceh City on December 31 1973. He is a well-known politician in Aceh. He continued his higher education at STIM Banda Aceh and earned a Bachelor's degree in Management in 2006.
Illiza's career began as a member of the Banda Aceh City DPRD from 2004 to 2006. Then, she served as Deputy Mayor of Banda Aceh for two periods, namely from 2007 to 2012 and from 2012 to 2014.
In 2014, Illiza was elected Mayor of Banda Aceh and served until 2017. Currently, Illiza is active as a member of the DPR RI for the period 2019 to 2024.
- Sudirman.
Next, there is a local Acehnese film actor, Sudirman, who is on the market and ready to compete with other potential candidates.
The figure with the full name H. Sudirman, S.Sos, better known as Haji Uma, was born on November 10 1974. He is a Senator or member of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD-RI) from Aceh.
Haji Uma has been elected as a member of the DPD-RI for two periods, namely 2014-2019 and 2019-2024, with the highest vote acquisition in Aceh.
- Nazarudin.
Then there is a famous figure in the world of football, namely Nazaruddin Dek Gam. Nazarudin, who is the President of Persiraja Banda Aceh, has experience in the business world.
He has served as President Director in several companies, including PT. Sinar Harapan, Grand Transit Hotel, Sinar Mobil Showroom, Aceh Sport Center, Mr. Clean Laundry and Dry Clean, West Coast Hotel, and PT. Putra Sinar Desa.
Currently he is a Member of the DPR RI from the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction. His name is also predicted to compete in the 2024 Aceh gubernatorial election.
- M. Nasir Djamil.
The name M. Nasir Djamil is familiar to the people of Aceh, this politician from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) is quite worthy of being included as one of the candidates for governor of Aceh 2024.
Some time ago, Member of the People's Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia, M. Nasir Djamil, stated that he was ready to run as a candidate for Governor of Aceh in the 2024 Aceh Regional Head Election.

M Nasir Djamil admitted that he was running as a candidate for Governor of Aceh with the intention of improving the region. He admitted that he was optimistic, with prayers and support everyone could win the trust of the people of Aceh.
From the list of names above, so far only Muzakir Manaf has been confirmed to run for governor of Aceh 2024-2029, Muallem was nominated by the Aceh Party for this position.
