Chief Judge of Syarie Negeri Sembilan Malaysia Discusses Caning Sentences in Bireuen.

Acting (Pj) Regent of Bireuen, Aceh Province, Indonesia, Aulia Sofyan, PhD, represented by Regional Secretary (Sekda) Ir Ibrahim Ahmad, MSi and officials of Forkopimda, the ranks of the Sharia Court, received a working visit from the Chief Judge of Syariah Jabatan Syariah Negeri Sembilan Malaysia, Yang Amat Arif Dato' Haji Kamal Bashah bin Dato' Ahmad Tajuddin, Tuesday (25/6/2024) morning, at the local Regent's Hall.

During the visit, the Chief Syariah Judge was accompanied by Mr Mohd Rizdwan bin Ghazali (Chairman of the Syariah Court Registry), and Dr Zulzaidi bin Mahmod (Chairman of the Sulh Unit), as well as Sulh employees and staff from Negeri Sembilan Malaysia.

Bireuen Regional Secretary, Ir Ibrahim Ahmad, MSi when the meeting took place in the Regent's Hall, said, today we received a visit from Dato' Haji Kamal Bashah from Hakim Negeri Sembilan visiting Bireuen to see or find out about the caning punishment in Aceh and it was the first to be carried out in Bireuen.

"During the meeting, we explained at length about the implementation of the caning law which refers to the Aceh Qanun, and there was also a presentation by the assistant from Wilayatul Hisbah, chairman of the Sharia Court about the steps and procedures for implementing the caning punishment in Bireuen," he explained.

The Regional Secretary added that at the meeting there had been no collaboration, this was just a blessing or working visit. Head of Syariah Judges, Department of Syariah Justice, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, and staff, to find out about the implementation of the caning law.

Meanwhile, the Chief Syariah Judge of the Department of Sharia Justice for Negeri Sembilan Malaysia, Yang Amat Arif Dato' Haji Kamal Bashah bin Dato' Ahmad Tajuddin, said thank God, in that meeting we received a lot of new knowledge, he said in Malay.

The first time we saw that the caning punishments carried out in Aceh were different for men and women, namely men standing and women sitting, and the caning punishments followed sharia requirements, where the maximum punishment was 200 lashes at a maximum.

It was also conveyed that currently in Malaysia there is a caning punishment, only the maximum punishment is 6 sabbaths, for several countries in Malaysia it is related to khalwat, drinking wine, gambling and others, the same as in Aceh, explained Dato' Haji Kamal Bashah.
