It's the Chinese dragon boat festival day. It's a quite significant festive season in mainland China as it has some stories behind this festival.

One of the best known in modern China holds that the festival commemorates the death of the poet and minister Qu Yuan. A cadet member of the Chu royal house, Qu served in high offices. However, when the king decided to ally with the increasingly powerful state of Qin, Qu was banished for opposing the alliance and even accused of treason. During his exile, Qu Yuan wrote a great deal of poetry. Twenty-eight years later, Qin captured Ying, the Chu capital. In despair, Qu Yuan died by suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River.

And the people made these dumplings throw into the river so the fishes come and eat the dumplings rather than Qu's body. Fascinating stuff. I don't know how you feel about it, but I certainly know Chinese will add more good stuff to their ancestors, same goes to my own family.
