History of Radio Rimba Raya in the struggle for Indonesian independence.

Indonesia's struggle to maintain independence after the proclamation was a very critical and difficult period. After proclaiming independence on August 17, 1945, Indonesia still received Military Aggression from the Dutch on June 21, 1947. Guerrilla warfare was the choice taken by the Indonesian National Army (TNI) at that time.

The Netherlands still did not recognize Indonesia's independence so that on December 19, 1948, Military Aggression occurred again. The Dutch spread false news about the dissolution of Indonesia to the whole world, then cut off all access to Indonesia from the international community by destroying Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) in Yogyakarta.

However, in the district of Central Aceh, there is a radio called Radio Rimba Raya which is still broadcasting. Radio Rimba Raya is the one who finally voiced that Indonesia still exists and is independent. In the past, this radio broadcast its broadcasts in Indonesian, English, and Urdu languages.

The narrative of Indonesia's struggle against the Dutch claim is documented on a national monument, namely the Rimba Raya Radio Struggle Monument located in Rimba Raya Village, Pintu Rime Gayo District, Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh.

“That time was very critical…………………………

On December 19, 1948, the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia, Yogyakarta, was controlled by the Dutch. Radio Republik Indonesia, which broadcasts the voice of Indonesia Merdeka throughout the world, is no longer on the air. Dutch radio Hilversum, loudly broadcasts that the Republic of Indonesia has been destroyed. Part of the world believed the news.

At such a critical time, on the night of December 20, 1948, RRR (Radio Rimba Raya) aired through the sky proclaiming that the Republic of Indonesia based on PANCASILA still existed and that the 1945 Revolution was still burning.

On December 19, 1948, the Military Governors of Aceh, Langkat, and Tanah Karo, in a session of the Regional Defense Council, among other things decided that on December 20, 1948 the RADIO transmitter which was later called Radio Rimba Raya should be broadcast.

Tanah Aceh, CAPITAL REGION OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA, in the face of all events that occur, prepares to bring in a strong transmitter from abroad.

It was in Ronga—Ronga that, after a long journey, Radio Rimba Raya finally settled down, and on December 20, 1948, it periodically started broadcasting.”

The Rimba Raya Radio Struggle Monument was built to commemorate historical events when Radio Rimba Raya became an emergency radio replacement for Radio Republik Indonesia which had been destroyed by the Dutch.

Rimba Raya radio transmitter survived the bombing by the Dutch military on all transmitters in Indonesia at that time. The Commander of the X Elephant Division, Colonel Hoesin Yoesoef, secured the antenna and transmitter for Radio Rimba Raya and moved around in the forest to avoid Dutch military attacks.

The Dutch's efforts to completely shut down all of Indonesia's access to the international community continued. Sultan Aman Mar then closely and secretly escorted the transfer of the transmitter from the army headquarters of the X Elephant Division to the Burni Bies forest to avoid Dutch pursuit. The transfer of the radio transmitter was dramatic, with the group forced to get out of the way to hide from Dutch military aircraft. Moving the radio transmitter to the Burni Bies forest was too risky, so the transmitter was eventually shifted to the Jungle Rimba Raya.

Radio Rimba Raya broadcasts using a radio station with a power of 1 kilowatt at frequencies of 19.25 and 61 meters. The broadcast contained rebuttals to the Dutch claim about the dissolution of Indonesia and was broadcast in 3 languages, namely English, Urdu, and Indonesian. The broadcast was broadcast to Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia, to Europe.

Radio Rimba Raya continued to play an active role until the Dutch government recognized Indonesian sovereignty on 27 December 1949 through the Round Table Conference in The Hague. Radio Rimba Raya was again operating in 2008 as a medium of information and entertainment for the people of Bener Meriah and its surroundings.
