To launch the country's first submarine cable underground alternative route, customers may face internet slowness for about 6 hours from 2pm on May 26.

Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) said this in a press release on Sunday night.

C-M-WI-4 landing station in Bangladesh
According to BSCCL, Cox's Bazar Road Department and Cox's Bazar Development Authority have completed the construction of a new underground cable route from Cox's Bazar landing station to Beach Manhole as an alternative route to the existing underground cable.

The new route will be connected to the optical fiber and power cable with the ‘C-Mi-Wi-4’ submarine cable.

In addition, the circuits terminated by the C-M-WI-4 submarine cable will be transferred to the new underground cable (from Beach Manhole to Cox's Bazar Landing Station.

The circuits terminated at the Cox's Bazar landing station via this eight-hour submarine cable will be closed on May 26 from 2pm to 10pm.

According to BSCCL, even if the second submarine cable and ITC circuits are operational at this time, internet subscribers may face temporary internet slowdown.

According to Internet service providers, the country currently uses about 1,600 Gbps of bandwidth, of which about half is provided by the second submarine cable.

Bangladesh's first submarine was added only in 2005. And in September 2016, the second submarine cable was connected to the SEA-ME-WE-5 submarine cable through the landing station at Kalapara in Patuakhali.

In addition to submarine cable, Bangladesh is now connected to the World Wide Web through six alternative means (ITC or International Terrestrial Cable).
