Moving To The Side Of Your Opponent - Martial Arts
Once someone attacks you, if you have the options to run, you can do that. Otherwise, you have to fight back as a defense. And you have another option to stand there and getting hit.
No one likes to take the third option, I guess. Sometimes you cannot stop the fight although you do your best to solve it. When we talk about self defense, it is not always parry and block. Based on the situation, attacking is the best defense.
In order to attack or if the attacker attacks you, he has to be in the attacking rage. He cannot hit you from far away. If you get close to the attacker to strike, you both are face to face.
You can hit him and the attacker can do the same. Here your stepping and how you position yourself, that's very important. Instead of stepping forward straight, you can move to the side.
If you move to the side behind the attacker's back, it is easier to attack, but it would be difficult for the attacker to attack you. So you are in a good position to make your move and do whatever you want.

If you watch carefully Master Wong's footwork, he moves forward and at the same time, stepping to the side of his opponent where he is in a better position to strike. When you move forward and your hands should be in a proper place. In case the attacker strikes you, you are ready to defend that while getting close.
