Gratitude
2025 has just begun!

Every first week of the year, I usually get busy with writing down my resolutions and setting out future goals.
Some researchers say that you are more likely to achieve your goals when you pen them down. This is valid in a way.
However, something happened on New Year Eve that changed my mindset.
My little cousin was rushed to the hospital around 10 PM due to a critical health issue that just developed. We were admitted into the emergency unit but ended up pacing around the hospital for 1 hr 30 mins while waiting for the doctor who never arrived until we left.
It was impossible to get any medications at the hospital since it was strictly on the doctor's prescription. And the pharmacies around had closed too.
To cut the story short, we prayed over my cousin. When the child began to recuperate, we headed home.

That incident got me thinking so deeply. So many "What ifs...?" race through my mind.
It made me reflect on the need to be grateful for even the minutest things such as our ability to sit upright without any aid.
Sometimes, while chasing our new goals, we lose sight of the beautiful things around us. However, it is important that we take some moments daily to express gratitude for the blessings in our lives, whether big, average or small.
Gratitude goes beyond just saying "thank you" to a stranger or loved one for a gift or service rendered.
It is about recognising the little things we often take for granted. This could be our health, loved ones, nature's beauty, or other simple life realities that bring joy.
In 2025, I have decided to always be grateful. Rather than list out what I hope to stop doing or habits I wish to change, I want to write down every little thing I am grateful for daily.
Whether it is a warm smile from a colleague at work, a kind comment from a steemian on a post, or a beautiful cloud in the sky.
I also wish to spend more time with my loved ones, perform acts of kindness and explore nature. Hopefully, it would help me appreciate the little things that matter beyond material blessings.
Thank you for reading my reflection. What are grateful for today, dear friend? And do thinking of these things fill you with positive emotions whenever you encounter challenges?
