Extinction is the complete loss of species on our planet. Species loss naturally occurs over a millions of years and is a normal part of evolution.

Human activities has been the causes of extinction of animals on the planet and if this continues, we risk the destroying the life support system that even the wild world rely on. Human are to protect the natural world because animals and the planet matter, not just only humans that matter.

The human activities of the natural environment does not only destroys the lives of animals but also affects or destroy our social structure, economic and food security. This is because we have more connection with nature than we know it.

•Hunting; this is an unnecessary act that can reduce the number of species on the planet. A number of species have been hunted to extinction and if human can stop hunting animals, we would give nature a better chance of regenerating and flourish again.

•Pollution; there are some creatures that depends on salt water for survival, like fish, frogs and other invertebrates are especially vulnerable to pollution. Water is polluted by run-off of fertilizers, chemicals and oils from factories, pesticides from farm that flows untreated into the rivers. Factories and cars release chemicals on air and these chemicals are deposited on land by rain which causes Acid rain.

Acid rain weakens and kills plants life which results in poor production of food to the animals.

•Deforestation; which is the cutting down of trees in a large area add so much to extinction of animals. Deforestation has effects for all animals either they live in river, mountain, forest, or oceans. The most affected groups of animals are those who have their lives closely linked with the forest. These animals are mostly found in the island.

Over the years, Nigerians have eaten more animals as meat, and this is due to poverty issues. It is referred to as "Bush meats," which have endangered most animals. These animals also deserve to breath air just as humans. Hunters kill these animals daily for food and for profits. Most of these endangered animals includes;

•Crocodile
•Tortoise
•Python
•Antelopes
•Elephants
•Chimpanzees
•Gorillas
•Lizards

Humans are supposed to be careful with their treatments to animals. With our own little knowledge, there are a lot we can do to preserve these animals;

•Slow down when driving; there are many animals who live in developed areas and this means that they are exposed to human hazards. It will be better and safe if we slow down when driving, and look out for these animals on the roadside.

•Roadside littering can also attract these animals to the road hence animal extinction. These wildlife can be attracted to the roadside because of t rash littered on the road.

•Reduce the us of water in home and gardens so that wildlife can have a better chance of survival. Avoid littering the water with oil or any dangerous chemicals because these can be harmful to human and to these animals.

•In our farm work, we should reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers. When these chemicals comes in contact with the soil, it washes away when the rain comes and flows into the river, this can be dangerous to some animals that live in the water or even cause death.

Try to find out what species in your area are endangered so that reaching out to people aroud can be easy. Letting people know about these species will reduce the chances of putting these species in danger.

Volunteer time to protect the wildlife around. Some lost animals move around without any help, a volunteer to take them to the parks or wildlife refuge can be a very protective tool in saving them.
