SEC-S18W4 | My worst holiday travel memory.Spent half of the night pushing car through the snow.
Greetings, dear friends, how are you all? I hope you all are fine and enjoying your day. I wish for you all good health, wealth and a prosperous time ahead. I am so excited to take part in this beautiful contest, for which I have a story in bank and can’t waste this opportunity of sharing my ordeal with you all.
When was your worst trip that you would like to forget?
It was on the eve of last year, that’s 2023 when all of my friends decided to celebrate the New Year in Kashmir’s famous tourist destination, Gulmarg. The place is known for its beautiful landscape and also for the winter adventures it has on offer for the visitors. A lot of people can be seen visiting the place and having different adventures and other outdoor game experiences. It is always one of the top winter tourist destinations especially after snow falls in Kashmir. Gulmarg also called as the meadow of flowers is located at a distance of about 60 km from my place and the road being steep and sloping at a number of places it takes more than two hours to reach the place. It was at around four in the evening when we boarded on the cars and left for the place. It was a nice, comfortable and very exciting travel till we reached a place situated right before the place and we stopped there to have some tea as it was very cold outside, and we needed something to provide us some warmth.
What problems have you faced and who was with you?
As we were in two cars moving towards the place, whole of my friend circle where there on the trip. Upon reaching a place well before Gulmarg, we had to tie chains to the tyres to overcome no friction conditions and to get to the place. It was all working smoothly until we reached a place very close to Gulmarg. The car I was travelling in wasn’t easy to drive while negotiating the slippery curves as its tyres had worn out a little and couldn’t make a stronghold on the path. At one point during our travel towards the place, one of the chains to one of the tires of my friends car was cut and the actual problem started here. We all got together to fix the problem and reach our destination soon, but God had different plans and we couldn’t fix the chain by ourselves. Without the chain, the car didn’t even move an inch because of the heavy snow that had accumulated on the undulating terrain of the place. My friends and I tried our best, but couldn’t do anything and eventually reached at a conclusion to call the person who had rented us the chains already. The shop where from we had got those chains was located at a distance of about 15 km from the spot and it really was a setback to our hopes when the mechanic refused to reach the place as he denied to have any vehicle to get to us.
How you managed this situation in the end?
When we lost all our hopes we decided to push the car to at reach someplace atleast, where we could stay and have some food to survive.As it was chilling cold outside, which could have proved to be fatal. We motivated each other and made sure everyone of us didn’t lose hope. We exhibited our ultimate strength by pushing the car through the steepest of slopes and that too when it was slippery. It was more like a double whammy for us as the road was not only steep, but due to the drop in temperature during the night, the surface had frozen and even it was difficult for us to have a stronghold on the ground while pushing the car. Eventually, we reached the place and it was at 2 AM in the night when we got in to the hotel, we had already booked. As the hotel was owned by one of our friends, he had asked us to bring our favourite food with us, and as we were already late to the hotel, we satiated our empty bellies by eating what was available at that time. Upon reaching the hotel, we all were happy than ever before, and where excited as if we had got a new birth. We thanked the Almighty to make us succeed through such a difficult task of life, and it definitely added to our experience.

It's unfortunate that your trip should have been a pleasant one, but because the car you were using got stuck in the thick snow. I just hope another bad experience won't happen again when you go on another trip. 🙏
