The Vienna Museum of Furniture - Part 5
Hello, friends of this fantastic community! With this post, I continue my story about my trip to Vienna. As you might have gathered, Vienna is a place rich in culture, and there are indeed many museums to visit. When I bought the combined Sissi ticket, it also included a visit to the Vienna Museum of Furniture. Honestly, I didn't even know this museum existed, but I have to say it turned out to be a wonderful discovery—very interesting. In this museum, you can find furniture from all around the world. You don't need to be a design expert; during our visit, we were provided with an audio guide in our language that explained step-by-step the history of the museum, particularly its extensive collection of Habsburg furniture. The museum was actually created in 1747 by Empress Maria Theresa and initially served as a storage place for Habsburg furniture. I discovered that all their residences were practically empty and furnished only as needed, so there had to be a place to store all these pieces. Eventually, the museum became state-owned, and it decided to expand its collection by acquiring pieces from all over the world. I must say, there are quite a lot of pieces—so many, in fact, that I spent almost half a day exploring all the rooms of the museum. Naturally, there’s also something related to Empress Sissi here. Some scenes from the film are recreated in the museum because the film used real furniture, not replicas. So, during the visit, you occasionally come across scenes from the film, which I believe was one of the early Sissi films made in the 1950s. According to the sign at the entrance, the museum houses over 160,000 pieces of furniture forming various collections. This journey not only helps you understand the history of furniture but also the history of the royal family, as each member had their own style and created their own furnishings. Anyway, I’ve tried to share some photos I took inside the museum. I hope you liked them and that you get a chance to visit this place. See you in my next post, which will most likely be about Vienna as well. See you soon!
In conclusion, I found the visit to this museum very interesting. It’s a bit out of the city center and requires quite a bit of walking, but it was definitely worth it. It's a shame there were very few people there—perhaps it’s not as well-known as other museums.
