Clock Museum - Vienna - Part 7

In today’s post, we continue our journey discovering Vienna. Today, I want to take you through this virtual journey with me, exploring a small museum in Vienna that many of you might not know about—I'm talking about the Clock Museum.

Let's be honest, we visited it because the entrance was free on the first Sunday, as we actually didn't intend to spend more money on museums since we had already spent quite a bit before. In the end, it turned out to be a very interesting museum.

This museum is located inside a historic building in Vienna dating back to 1690, called the Palazzo Obizzi, and it was founded in 1917. It spans three floors, if I remember correctly. The museum documents the history of clocks from the 1400s to the present day. As you can see from my photos, there are clocks of all types and sizes, and I was truly impressed by this museum.

The setup is quite retro and doesn’t invite you to visit much, but I was able to see incredibly tiny clocks as well as the mechanism of the clock from the south tower of the Vienna Cathedral, which was brought to this museum after being replaced with a more modern mechanism.

I ended up spending almost two hours inside this museum and discovered that some clocks were even incorporated into paintings. This shows how important it was to observe and measure the passage of time even in the past.
