SEC-S16W4 | Travel to Another Planet = Mars It Is
Man the title of this contest made me remember my youth. I was in High School, bachillerato here in Honduras, I was about 16 years old, in a small town that was popularly called among many of its residents Macondo, because back then it was an out of the way place and getting there was quite difficult. By the way Macondo is the fictitious town in 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. And here, to this remote place a group of Hare Krishna's showed up, going specifically to my school. They talked, they danced and they were also selling books, among these was Easy Travel to Other Planets. Of course I bought it, I was into Extraterrestrial Life and UFO's at the time and this was the opportunity I was looking for. Alas, it did not turn out that way, I found nothing about getting to other planets in that book, but at least I tried.
Ok, that is now out of the way, so I will concentrate on the real work of entering this contest, even though it has been decades since I decided that travel to other planets would not be for me.
Which planet would you pick for a trip and why?
Now this is a difficult question to answer, and I think it also limits us to planets in our solar system as I know of no other planets. Yes, I know that planets have been discovered around other stars but I have no details on them. So which nearby planet would I choose to visit? After carefully assessing the question, I think the only planet that would fit my needs is Mars. It has no atmosphere, but maybe it does, who knows? Yes, scientists know, but they could be wrong, I don't believe everything I am told. But listen, Mars is not that far away, so the trip would not be so uncomfortable. The weather is colder than what we have on Earth, but that I can remedy with the proper equipment. It is not frozen nor the heat unbearable like Venus. Also it might have been inhabited once, so I could make some nice discoveries. Yes, if I could I would go to Mars.
Will you visit it with Elon Musk? Set up your reasons.
Now, why would I want to go with Elon Musk? I don't know him, he is probably not that nice to be around with, probably will have bodyguards along, and most probably will want all the attention for himself. No I would rather go by myself, or with people who, like me, are completely random normal residents of this planet. better yet if I do know them. But in reality Elon Musk going or not going has no relevance in my will to go, I would go with anyone when it comes to it.
What is the main advantage you think about living there instead of the Earth?
Actually I see no advantages over Earth in Mars. I would just visit because it would be great as a bragging right. And also, who doesn't want to visit an alien planet?
Would you travel alone there or with somebody else, who?
As I already said, who accompanies me is irrelevant to me. I could go with anyone or with no one. Yes, I guess going with someone I know would likely be better, but is not a deal breaker or maker for me. Probably I would like to have somebody around who has great survival skills, because you never know what may happen. Also, a good cook would be wonderful.
