SEC-S14W4 | The best place you have ever visited [Limbe Downbeach and Wildlife Center]

Describe what the theme/purpose of your visit was.

We all have once in our busy schedules to travel to one or two places we cherish the most. I am not indifferent as I once travelled with my kids to one of my favourite cities in Cameroon. This was to Limbe, in the South West Region of Cameroon.

The purpose of the visit was to meet up with my father-in-law and also visit the Zoo with the kids for the kids to see some of the endangered species in Cameroon.

Also, it was meant to have a good time at the beach with the family and for the kids to enjoy a sea view from home. Our house is closer to the sea and each time we were idle, we moved to the seaside resort to relax.

Was it in cold weather or on a summer trip?

Limbe has two seasons which are the dry season characterised by high temperatures and harsh sun. I normally do not like heat and my kids do as well. Our skin is not heat-friendly even if we use the air conditioner in the house.

We also have the rainy season with moderate temperatures, though during the day when the sun comes, temperatures are a bit higher but not as compared to the dry season.

Summer holidays happened to be during the rainy season and the best moment for me and the kids. Therefore, we most often make our trip to Limbe during summer trips.

During the summer period, the weather is good for outdoor activities because the harsh sun rays will not be a hindrance.

Did you go with your family or friends?

It was a family trip with the kids. At the park when we boarded the bus, the kids were so excited 😆 to meet Grandpa. Little did they know it was a tiring and boring 11-hour trip. Boring because the roads were bad and lots of construction going on the road making the bus move at a very slow pace.

But the end of the trip was full of excitement as they enjoyed seeing animals and also enjoying the seashores.

It was also a good trip as the family reunited after staying apart from each other for a long time.

What were the attractions during your visit?

The major attractions in Limbe are the botanical garden, the wildlife centre, beaches, and the former slave trade centre.

We were not able to visit all these beautiful places. Notwithstanding, we were at go visit the wildlife center. We were given a lecture by one of the staff of the centre on the different species of animals kept at the park.

We were taken to the wildlife museum where were lectured on the history of some species. What caused some extinct.

We also had the opportunity to visit the Downbeach where Fishermen come with fresh fish from the sea. You select a fresh fish and they roast it for you to consume.

Please describe: was your journey safe and trouble-free, or did you face any problems?

It was a memorable journey but not without challenges. As I earlier said, it was a hectic 11-hour trip on the bus with bad roads. This was a journey that used to last for 6 hours when the roads were good. Due to the crisis, little or no maintenance has been done.

Longer periods of time on the bus are very tiring for me. I could not get proper rest as the kids were sleeping on me.

In a nutshell, travelling to Limbe was awesome due to the fact that I was able to take the kids out for some leisure time at the wildlife centre and the Limbe Down beach. Though moving along with the kids during the day for longer hours was tiring.
