As a woman of yesterday and today, I would say that I've had more than enough when it comes to DIYs and yet there are a lot more outside to be discovered. If you have read my introduction in my previous post, you will know that the recycled materials I will be presenting is made for a purpose.

I have lots of plants in my garden and I like rearranging them when they need trimmings and put them in pots. More often than not, I utilize the empty bottles of soft drinks, mineral water, empty plastic bags, oil containers and other things that meets my fancy. You only need to be creative.

As you can see on the above photo, I collected the empty bottles and plastic bags of grilled chicken, large crunchies, etc. I used the plastic bags for my seedlings and other cut plants .

I converted the 1.5 liter bottle of soft drinks into a pot. First, you cut the top then cut some strips, and fold them sideways. Once done you may paint it accordingly to your desired color

Plant Rock

I made use of the small bottles too. I cut it into two, bore holes with hot iron. I transferred the baby succulents here. I used my old tray as a plant rock.

Empty Bottles, bowls & Egg Trays

There, I used the bottles as plant hangers.

I sewed the cracked part of my bowl and transformed it into a mini garden!

I also used the egg trays for germination.

Empty Plastic Bags

I transferred the chili seedlings in used plastic bags. They will be safer there until it's time to transfer them to the ground.

Matting

I used our plate made from thin bamboo strips as a model for my project which is Paper Matting

Since we had piles of used notebooks and scratch papers, I resulted into paper matting.

Materials needed:

• Paper Strips
• glue
• Varnish
• Watercolor/Paint
• Empty vans

Procedure

• Simply cut the paper about 2 inches wide and fold them into desired thinness, then close the edges and ends with glue.

• I used the empty cans of sardines, meat loaf and Spam for my case.

• Glue the ends of the strips horizontally to make the mat pattern.

• Now it's time to weave your mat. Insert the strips in diagonal alternately in between each strip. Close it with your glue until the desired height is achieved.

• Apply some varnish on the surface and let it dry for few minutes. This will make the paper hard and safe from being wet.

• Time to paint your vases!

See, they result? They will make beautiful organizers and flower vases.

Recycling trash can save mother earth from these non-biodegrable materials and you can use your imagination to make the most of it. You can save money as well.

This is my contribution for the Women's International Day #11, recycling Plastic Containers and Scratch Papers.
