CONTEST #19 LOCAL DRESS PROMOTION

in SteemWomen Club3 years ago (edited)

Hello Beautiful Ladies @steemwomenclub. My warm regards to everyone of you here. I hope you’re well in your various localities and homes.

It’s my pleasure to be a participant in this latest contest #19 showcasing my local Clothings and I’m sure going to showcase colors too.
Thank you so much Mummies @svm038 and @ngoenyi for the great work you have been doing in this community.

My name is Onyinyechi Mary-Assumpta from Anambra State in the Eastern Region of Nigeria, in West Africa. I am from The Igbo speaking part of the Nigeria.

In my country and precisely all over the world, women and fashionable clothes are synonymous. You cannot talk about fashion without women, in fact, both words exist side by side. In my words; The existence of the fashion industry is 80% dependent on women. No women, No fashion.

The Igbos are known for their fashionable and unique Clothings which range from Abada or Ogudo (Ankara), to Laces and to Gorges.

The Ankara comes in various beautiful designs and patterns. There are different brands from different companies but the most popular ones include Hitarget, Holandes, Nigeria Wax.

Here’s a gif I made with some of my Ankara wrappers.

The Igbo women tie two wrappers(Ogudo) and Ishafu (scarf) which is cut from the same Ankara because they come in six (6) yards each. The blouse could be of any fabric especially African lace.

This recent sway in civilization has ushered in new trends with the Ankara. You will find women making skirts and blouses, gowns or even just tops and blazers from the Ankara Fabrics.

The wrappers are less expensive. All you need do is take it to the tailor to cut into two wrappers and a scarf. The African married woman doesn’t joke with her scarf.
This cutting can be done with just one steem.

These Ankara can be worn to church, weddings, burials, Markets or for casual outings.

We have the African or Nigerian Lace fabrics

Laces are more versatile, more expensive and mainly used for Festivities and weddings.

They come in various colors, designs and patterns too. Laces are made from cotton, sateen, wool etc. They are designed with pearls, Sequence, threads, beautiful beads and stones. Laces are mainly reserved for serious occasions.

Their prices vary according to their qualities but ranges from 50 steem to 500 steem or even more. The sewing of lace fabrics vary from Tailor to tailor and they are charged according to their qualities.

At my sister in laws wedding.

This one cost me 15 steem per yard and I used 4 yards to make this gown. The sewing was 22 steem. The total Money spent on this was 82 steem

The Gorges

The gorges are more expensive and more traditional Clothings. They are more cherished and revered than the laces and Ankara.
They are usually kept under the boxes pending when their needs arise. 😀😀

They are made from wool, cotton, net etc and embroidered with beautiful and colorful threads, beads, stones pearls etc. Some are handmade while others are machine made or both.

Most gorges now come with two wrappers and a blouse material while some don’t and you have to buy lace fabrics to sew for the blouse

The coral beads.

The coral beads are also very important part of our local clothings. They come in red or white colors. A gorge or lace is usually worn with coral beads.
