CHILDREN AND DRUG ABUSE//: PARENTAL CONTROL@grich

Hearing of the word "drug abuse", it's effect and dangers has been a conversant thing, but never have I come in contact with a person who has suffered from this.
A scary incident took place in my neighbors house, which cause everyone running helter skelter. Her son of 8 going on 9 years suddenly pass out and the mother confused not knowing what to do, had no option than to raise an alarm we all gathered, when his pulse was checked and he has confirmed to still have breath in him, he was rushed to the hospital.(I couldn't even take pictures because of the commotion)
Several tests were carried out after he was resursitated, only to find out that the child took an overdose of a particular medicine (name with held) which the mum confirmed that she bought the drugs few days back. On asking the younger ones they confirmed that Junior always drinks the medicine whenever he goes into his mummy's room(meaning he takes it without measuring it) the mum herself confirmed him frequently entering her room especially when she is out of the room, but her mind never thought his reason for that was because of the medicine. When Junior was asked why he continuously took the medicine without his mother's consent he said the medicine was very sweet (children and their mentality😌)
This incident made me realize how important it is for us to let our kids know that drug abuse is not only when one takes hard drugs, and also let them understand the effects of drug abuse.

EFFECTS OF DRUG ABUSE

• Skin irritation

• Dizziness/weakness

• Convulsion

• Death

SKIN IRRITATION

Excess intake of most drugs can cause irritations on the skin.

DIZZINESS/WEAKNESS

This is sure going to happen, when one takes in more than the required/ recommend amount of drug/medicine. And this can lead to fainting just as what happened to the child in my narration.

CONVULSION

This is the most serious outcome of drug abuse which if not noticed and tackled on time could lead to the last worse effect which I am about to mention.

Yes drug abuse can cause death. This can be the end result of drug abuse if not noticed and handled on time. However there are steps to take to prevent bour children from falling victims to drug abuse.

PREVENTIONS

Parents, especially we the women should start teaching our children the dangers of drug abuse at an early age. Teaching them the dangers of drug abuse

• They should learn to never pass the recommended dose given to them

• They should never take or taste any medication prescribed for another person.
  If these steps are taken by parents I can assure you that our children will conciously inculcate this character, which will guide them in life and end up being tool that they can use in the future in abstaining from high class drug abuse like smoking, drinking, and taking hard substance such as Cocaine and the likes of it.

• KEEP ALL DRUGS FROM THE REACH OF CHILDREN.
  This has been an age long anthem of drug manufacturers that most people don't pay attention to. Parents should start being concious of where they place drugs, if not for anything else at least for the safety of their children. Kids are natural explorers, they always want to try something new, so don't let any medication be an adventure ground for them.
