Steem Women club Engagement Contest #1 | My Sister, Is The Most Important Person In My Life By @chant
Accept warm steem greetings from my end to all the beautiful women and handsome men of this platform. It’s a pleasure to participate in this contest as I will reveal the person that matters a lot to me and has impacted my life. I am who I am today thanks to her as she stood her grounds to make sure I succeeded through school. She gave it all not only to me as her kid sister but also to extended family members who needed help. Below is my sister and I will talk briefly about her.
The Person That Matters in My Life
My sister Dr. Adeline Ngie
My sister Dr. Adeline Ngie is that one special being in my life that has greatly impacted my life. She is like a role model to me and in anything I do, I seek advice from her. She is a senior lecturer at North West University , she is a researcher and head of department in her university. She is the second child of my mother and has 6 followers.
My sisters standing according to birth right😃🤓
She is the most educated in my family and everyone look up to her as one goddess 🤓🤓to the extent that What ever she suggested to be done in the family, everyone complies with the suggestions because they believe she is intelligent and cannot suggest what is detrimental to the family.
why She is important
We are from a royal family where gender stereotypes hinders a lot of women from going to school. Our parents especially fathers believed so much in this traditional stereotypes and did not see any need educating a female child. My father took to advice from his brothers not to send us to school because we were all females. My sister stood her grounds and hawk on the streets selling peanuts to raise money and see herself through school. The hardship she went through to educate herself and also educate her younger ones make her the most important person in my life.
She is one person who does not accept failure but will keep trying until she succeeds. It is thanks to her that I went to school till obtained my masters in Peace, Conflict and Security Studies. One of her strategies she uses to make me perform well in school is that she always promised to buy a gift if your performance meet her expectations. I remembered during my undergraduate studies in 2009-2012, she promised me a laptop and a digital camera if my performance was good. Whenever I thought of the promise, I could not sleep but study hard to achieve that result. One thing about her that motivated me a lot during school days was that she has never promised and failed to meet up with her promises.
Also, she deconstructed the gender stereotypes in my family and today many of my siblings are going to school. Most of my uncles who were against us going to school will now tell her that she should know she has many fathers and not just her biological father. She is one person that does not hold grudges and will always put on a smiling face. She will always tell me to stay away from those who discussed about other people rather than discussing about ideas.
Furthermore, she loves unconditionally irrespective of who you are. At times I use to be angry with her because of this but later realised that it was what makes her happy always.
My sister, our Zimbabwéen friend and myself on our way to Church in Johannesburg
She is caring and hate when you do not eat. The reason why she is always in the kitchen during her free hours. During my postgraduate studies, I bet with you guys if I was staying alone like my undergrad days, I would have suffered from gastric because I did not have time to cook. All my attention was buried in my studies. At times she will come back late but will still prepare food and forced me to eat 🤦🏻♀️.
My memories with My sister
I became close to my sister during my postgraduate studies in the University of Johannesburg. We were apart since I was schooling in Cameroon while she was schooling abroad. But thank God i followed her footsteps and we had some good memories together. I have lots of memories with my sister to share. Everywhere she is, I am always there so far as we are in the same town. My first memory with her was on campus at the postgraduate residence where I was living. She came to visit me and we took a picture.
My sister and I. I was going to see her off at the parking as she came to visit me on campus. I was on scholarship and the scholarship covers accommodation. She was constantly visiting me but I stayed there only during first semester and had to stay with my sister from second semester
Second semester I moved in with my sister. I could not cope on campus in a foreign land😃🤓
Apart from studies we both love sports. Learning without play at times makes you dull. 😃🤓 We had good memories playing handball 🤾♀️ and she captain our team and we were crowned champions
As I earlier said, everywhere she is, so far as we are in the same town, we are good to go😃🤓. I am not a scientist but had to help her with her research samples in the lab.
Conclusion
In sum, My sister is more like my mother because of the role she has played in my life. Even when I am married, she is always there willing to assist us, telling us strategies to use to conquer setbacks. She is that person I will never hesitate to call when I am facing challenges because she will always give a listening ear to my issues. I cannot stop thanking her for her endless efforts to see that I become a successful woman in life.
Many people do things to people expecting favour in return but my sister is one person whom will go extra miles to assist without expecting.
I have said it all about the person in my life that matters a lot and I will therefore invite @saxopedia @thegreens @wase1234 @vvarishayy @chiabertrand
to share with us that person that has created impact in their lives.
This is incredible. I only saw in movies and heard in our local African tales where girl children ere not allowed education. It seems so strange as some of us were born in the 21st century.
What your sister did was tremendous. To go against your father and uncles so as to pursue education and to also help you and your sisters is something that not many have the strength to do.
And knowing she's a doctor now just makes me happy that she was able to go so high in life by relying on herself. You are so lucky to have her as a sister and backup.
There is nothing like 21st century because even till date, there are communities that still deprived girls from schooling due to those archaic tradition. It’s my field gender and human rights. I am constantly in the field and still sees such in our communities. Even in cities, I recorded complaints from young orphan girls living with family relatives forced in to early marriage because their carers do not want to send them to school.
Hello dear chant I'm glad to read you! Wow your sis is a heroine, I admire her courage and determination and I also like the fact that she's selfless. Thanks for sharing with us!
She is indeed selfless. Thanks for reading from me and you will definitely read more from me.
I bet if sister sees this she will break down in tears
It's so beautiful how much regard you have for her and how much she's done for you and your family. For a woman is fight for herself and stand on her own is not something we see everyday because society has made most of us girls to believe we have no voice and it's ok to settle for less.
Your sister is a great woman... ❤️
Thanks for the invite Mme
It was a rough journey for her but I thank God that despite all, she stood tall and conquered. She is indeed a great woman. Thanks for accepting my invite.
What a wonderful sister you have, she hustle hard so that she can have good education irrespective of all odds and that pave way for you too. Now the female gender they were against from sending to school are now their best children because they live a meaningful life. She surely deserve the praise. Thanks for sharing.
My father refuse enrolling me in school then while my step brother that I am older than for a year started schooling before me, and when they question my father he said he has no money to send me to school but my mom took it upon herself to give me good education. Now only my mother's children study further than having secondary school education. Thanks for sharing sis.
Thanks for going through my post and I bet you, she gave it all to make sure that none of us suffered from those stereotypes.
Your father acted exactly like my father. I almost drop out of school because of lame excuses as such and I do not wish any child to go through that. I’m happy your mom did not relent to see that you are educated.
I got carried away reading your post. My passion as a woman for higher education re-emerged. I just finished my undergraduate a year ago. A good sister is a sister who is able to motivate her siblings to be better than her. Your sister is amazing. She fought the ideology that women should not be highly educated. And She is someone who is successful now and a motivation for others.
🥰🥰🥰
She is indeed a motivator to not only her own sisters but to many women who came across her. I am glad my post has awakened your passion for higher education.
Most of my uncles laughed at her that who will get married to her with her level of education because they believed that educated women are not submissive. But she conquered that all and is a happy married woman with two kids.
I can see why you so much love your sister because of the memories you guys have shared together
Woow good to know about this. I believe all her suggestions I'm the family are always good 😊
This is awesome, so she is a doctor in her field of studies and she lectures in the University. This sounds pretty cool and I can imagine how intelligent she is. You guys have the right to always listen to her suggestions at times in the family
You and your sister really look alike and I see you both have shared a lot of memories together until you both even do sports and played hand ball. I wish I was there to see how smart you guys were during this competition event
So tell me, how did you do it whereas you are not a scientist? Or maybe she had instructed you on how to carry out the scientific research samples
😂😂😂When I saw this I thought you wanted to accuse me of breaking lab equipments. I remembered my days in secondary school as some of my science incline friends will deceived their parents asking for money that they break photosynthesis in the lab 😂😂😂😂.
I was doing that under her supervision and instructions. She had deadlines to meet up with and so needed someone to help. It was my free days and I decided to help her plus I am always inquisitive to learn knew things.
Thanks for going through my post and I am waiting for your entry as well.
Hahaha chaaaaaiii I will laugh out my lungs. You have brought me back to memories because I was part of this crew that usually lie to our parents about scientific equipments in school
Hahaha thanks I had already dropped my entry early this morning. It's really an interesting contest because it reminds us of our important most important people in life
😂😂😂So you were part of the science students breaking photosynthesis in the lab🤔🤔. May God forgive you for deceiving your parents and I wish you kids should not do same to you lol.
Hahaha 🤣😂 our kids can't deceive us for we already know everything about the game. So I pitty them because we will be wise parents tomorrow
Wow, this sounds cool in the ears, having to show unconditional love to everyone. Christians will compare your sister nature to that of Christ in the book titled the Holy Bible. That love without strings attached, offering freely and not based on what someone will do her. This is just so cool, and good morals to pick and integrate into our kids for those of us who have kids. I will hardly forget about mentioning my family when I have to write something under the concept of Love.
How did you feel having that distance from your sister? With such a character description in your publication, It is not that easy not having such a person around.
Unconditional Love is the one thick I pick from your publication. I will emulate for my family and friends
Thanks for going through my post and to think of it that it inspired you to emulate.
It was not easy but the fact that she constantly communicated makes the distance not a barrier for us.
I see myself in your sister because in what ever i do, i dont give in to failure, when ever i fall, i rather pick something from the ground and move on... i am comfortable at settling, i always seek to know more.
Id say its thanks to my parents especially my father for what ever level of education i have attained today. He will ofcourse always promise me something if i meet his expectations but unlike your sister who will always keep to her words, my father will sometime failed me.
But when i realized that i was schooling for me and not for him, i didn't see his promises of what he will buy for me as a motivating factor to study. I just keep going for myself and my future..
Of course its still my father and id love to share about him.
I use to think that most boys are closed and appreciate their mom than dad. Your own case is different😃😀. Thanks for reading my entry post.
