Steem Women Club Contest #19: "Promoting Local Costume" @abby0207

in SteemWomen Club3 years ago (edited)

A bountiful day to all men and women in this community!

I am glad this contest "promoting local dress" was brought up by @steemwomenclub for I'd like to share our local costume here in the Philippines, particularly in the Luzon region, Ifugao.

This is an Ifugao female local costume where women wear a whole black attire with wrap-around skirt called "lufid". Traditional Ifugao women worn tight-fitting costume or hand-woven skirts with colorful stripes. You can buy this costume online with complete accessories for 17$. Or you can also maximize whatever resources you have to fit in with this type of costume. In this picture my daughter and my niece wore a personalized Ifugao costume during their school event or commonly known here in the Philippines "Buwan ng Wika" (Language Month) where all traditional costumes in our country are worn to represent love of one's own language and country.

The simple local costume they worn cost only 8$ as all items were customized with the help of my cousin who is a seamstress. Wearing of slippers is also part of the costume where these symbolize our locals while the accessories can be added or not.
One of the provinces here in the Philippines called Ifugao is known for the famous "Banawe Rice Terraces" which were sculpted like giant steps and that made them known in the entire country. The are called the "Ifugaos" who are agriculturists in the mountainous area.

It is indeed important to promote traditional costume in a certain country as this represents our identity. That is why all schools here in the Philippines celebrate the Language Month every month of August. Patronizing our own product gives us the feeling of belongingness of one's country. Although so many days and years have passed, changes may bring us to different lifestyle but celebrating and reminiscing our culture's pride give us a continuous connectivity to which country we belong.

I am grateful to this contest I am able to share our local costume and it gives me a great pride.

I am inviting my friends @mich103 and @fabio2614 to join this contest and be proud being a steemian and a Filipino.

Truly,
abby0207
