Breweries Are Where the Cool People Hang Out

in BEER5 years ago

So I spend a lot of time in breweries. I think most cool people do! Just Kidding, I know a lot of cool people who don’t drink so, but a few beers definitely makes people more Interesting.

It had been a tough week at work so a few coworkers and I decided to go grab a drink at a local brewery. I ended up having a few more beers than I planned, but hey who’s counting anyway. My first beer was Unicorn’s Delight.

This is a mixed-fermentation sour aged on oak with Pineapple added. There was good aromas of pineapple, upside-down pineapple cake, funk, pepper and rye. The flavor was tart with pineapple, oak, light spice (rye) and sweet hay characteristics.

My second beer was the Mother of Mayhem. This beer has aromas of dank pine and tropical fruit. The flavor is hoppy with tropical fruit and pine.

My third beer was the Elephant in the Alley.

This is a big Oatmeal Stout with Black Onyx Cocoa and Cacao. I love this aroma with notes malt, cacao, coffee, oatmeal and warming booze. The flavor is super malty with deep chocolate and espresso. It was pretty well balanced with roasted malt notes. The body was full and had a great thick mouthfeel. It was the perfect beer to end the night on.

Love the sound of those last two in particular. Black Onyx Cocoa, wtf is that!! Lol

Hahah - for future reference.

Black Cocoa powder, sometimes called black onyx powder, Dutch cocoa powder, or European style powder, is a pure cocoa powder specially processed to achieve a rich dark color. It has a lower acidity than natural cacao powder, which lets the strong chocolate flavors come through. However, having a lower acid content can affect its interaction with other ingredients, so sometimes a direct substitution between natural cocoa and black cocoa is not possible, or minor adjustments need to be made to the recipe for the chemistry of the dish to remain balanced.

Magic. I like learning new things!

a trip to a brewery fixes a lot of problems.

Dang, that last one just looks thick! If you ever make it over to my part of the state you should check out Tri-City Brewing, Midland Brewing Company, and Mt. Town Station. They are all pretty decent. Most of them just have a handful of flagship beers, but they sometimes do some really good seasonal ones.

I’ve not been that way in a long time. I have their beers, but I definitely need to check out the breweries.
