Regeneration and Regrowth - A Moringa Oleifera Tree

in Caturday4 years ago

It's Tuesday and time for Tree Tuesday, an initiative hosted by @old-guy-photos.

Photo below shows a Moringa Oleifera tree in one of my neighbor's backyard. It has just been recently harvested of its leaves and fruits and is just beginning to regrow. The leaves of the Moringa Oleifera tree are very nutritious and is packed with iron and a lot of vitamins especially vitamin C. In fact studies showed that Moringa leaves have 7 times more vitamin C than oranges! Not only that. Aside from vitamin C, the potassium in Moringa is 15 times more than bananas. It is also a very good source of antioxidants. Data gathered in one study suggest that the extracts of Moringa oleifera, both mature and tender leaves, have potent antioxidant activity against free radicals, prevent oxidative damage to major biomolecules and afford significant protection against oxidative damage (Source: Pubmed). Aside from iron, it also has protein, amino acids and calcium which all help the body to heal, build and be strong. Because of this it is very popular in our country either as tea where the leaves are dried and grounded or as greens added to soup based viand such as tinolang manok, mongo, law-uy and a lot more. This photo was taken in March this year before our Community Quarantine took effect.

The photo below is of the same tree, taken in May this year or two months after the first photo.

Today, I took a picture of the same tree on my way home from market. This is about a month after the second photo was taken.

The branches are thicker and the foliage is more dense especially along the top. This shows how quickly this tree with awesome medicinal benefits can regrow. Looking at these pictures just make me realize how fortunate we are that this tree is so easily grown and available at anytime of the year.

That's it for this post. Thanks for visiting and hope you enjoyed your visit. Hope to see you again. Stay safe and have a great week.

We also have a moringa tree in our house. In my country the leaves of this tree are used in many home medications.

Same here. In fact I have 3 moringa trees growing outside my house and we usually harvest the leaves, dry and ground them and then mix them as tea or with food.
