Potential Solutions To Our Pressing Challenges In Ghana - Tackling Our Educational Problems.

Hello everyone, in today's segment, I would like to touch on our educational sector.

This sector has changed so much that you find it very difficult to believe whose policies are actually meant to impact our lives positively. In the past, we saw basically two tactics by our governments. These were;

  • 3-year secondary school duration.
  • 4-year secondary school duration.

So, depending on how lucky you were based on the time you wrote you final basic examinations, you would either be spending 3 or 4 years in the high school level, learning the same syllabus. It was simply uncalled for.

I thought that was the craziest thing that could happen to our education until the current regime came to power. It seems the new implementations to the sector are the worst of all time.

In an attempt to get even those with the worst grades from the basic school level to be admitted, an extraordinary number of students are given admission into the senior high level. This means that more students (perhaps 3x the previous number) will be given admission. Hence, the need for more facilities such as classrooms, boarding facilities, laboratories and so on.

But what did they choose to do instead? Students have been grouped into 4 for coming to school. This is called the track system.

With this system, not everyone gets the same reopening date as students go in batches. This practically shortens the duration of their academic year given them more time home than at school.

Students therefore have more time to play at home than to be at school learning for their final exams. I think this has done more harm to our educational sector.

I think there is a simple solution to our educational problems in the country. Simply elect an impartial system for formulating our educational policies whose directives cannot be influenced by any party in power.

That is the only way we are going to have a smooth system. Otherwise, we will keep going back and forth with no proper system in place. Thank you.

Any time someone raises this topic, I just chuckle and not say anything because it can give you headache. The education system is so poor.
In my opinion, the free education was too sudden. They should have started with a cut off point for the free education. May be only those with aggregate 15 and better will enjoy it. This would have still maintain the number of students at a particular level so that much attention would be given to the infrastructure. This would have even encouraged the students to learn. Then as time goes on, the cut of point would be shifted to increase the number since there would be enough infrastructure.

But as it stands now, the track system is making the students lazy and I am just scared of the type of students we would be producing in the future.
This is a very sensitive issue and I wish the leaders look into it very well.

It is quite appalling when you see the conditions of students in classrooms and dormitories. Something must be done!

Something can be done when you and I wake up. But the question is are we ready?

There are several opinions and different perspective from which this could have been tackled, but they choose this. I hope we will find our way out in the new future.

My guy, it is said always. The center cannot hold. The problems we face today are the policies that come out. The teacher isn't treated well, the student is given the power. This has brought about miscreants and misfit in the society. Books for schools are changed anyhow. Thank you for your post. Steem on

@juzkid upvoted you 😄🎉🎉

It is simply problems upon problems. There is the need for massive changes indeed.

Thank you for the education
