This is quite important because most of the time, people don't just decide to make silly mistakes with their life on purpose. But people who are observing are in the best position to correct them and point it out for them.

We are all watchdogs of ourselves so we need to keep each other in check. When your friend is heading towards the wrong path, point it out for them. That way, they may also point out your errors for you.
