SOS CHILDREN’s HOME
While overall poverty in Ghana has been reduced by almost half in recent years, rural poverty has barely dropped and an estimated 40 per cent of the population here in Ghana’s drought-prone Northern Region continues to face chronic food insecurity, as well as a lack of infrastructure, basic social services and safe drinking water.
Tamale has a population of approximately 360,000 and is the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana – one of the poorest of the country. Contrary to other urban centres in Ghana, Tamale consists of a mix of modern buildings and traditional mud block houses. The region is inhabited by different ethnic groups, and in rural areas the tribe, its traditions and chiefs hold important roles in communal life. In the last decades there has repeatedly been armed conflict between ethnic groups over land rights, political representation and religion.
Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy has donated to the Tamale SOS Children's Village to celebrate this year's Christmas season.
Items donated include bags of rice, boxes of income, assorted drinks, boxes of Voltic mineral water, toiletries worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.
The Top Sanka also give out VIP tickets for his Bhim Nation Concert to staff of the facility.
The donation forms part of activities to commemorate the 4th edition of annual Bhim Nation Concert tonight at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
Speaking after the exercise, the CEO of Burniton Music Group said the gesture is to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in society during the Christmas celebration next week.
Stonebowy added, "these young children need love and the necessary support to become future leaders of mother Ghana."
The "Shuga" hitmaker was accompanied by the Chief of Tamale, Nyeb Dakpema Fusieni Bawa, his wife Dr Luisa and members of the Burniton Music Group.
The administrator of the SOS Children's Village, Madam Benedicter expressed their profound gratitude to Stonebowy, Nyeb Dakpema, Tamale Entertainment Chief for the kind gesture.
She also thanked Stonebowy for visiting them at this special time for Christmas and encourage him to visit them more often.
