Greetings to all and sundry on this platform once again, Today I am here again to write and share with you all about the Neem plant and some of its benefits. I know many or almost all of us here on this platform have heard of this Neem plant before and might even see it before. Okay without much talks, we set the ball rolling. One may ask what is this Neem plant that I am talking of ?....

What is Neem Plant?

The neem plant has a botanical name called Azadirachta indica and it is mostly found or grown in the tropical regions. India is one of the countries that we can found most of these trees or plants. The neem plant is sometimes called the village pharmacy and this is because the villages uses this plant as traditional medicines to cure several disease and we shall be looking at some of the diseases or illness that the plant cures. More than 140 distinct active compound can be extracted from the Neem plant and it is those compound that provide the neem plant with it's characteristics such as antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, etc.

Uses or Importance of Neem Plant?

As we know, there a lot of benefits that this plant gives us and I would mention some in this article. These benefits include the following:

The Neem plant is used in the treatment of lice in hair. This is because of the present of the azadirachtin (an active compound) found in neem extract which aids in the fight of parasites contained in the hair including lice.

Again, the neem oil obtained from the neem plant is used in the treatment of dandruff. This is as a result of the fight against the fungus responsible for the dandruff by the neem oil product.

The neem plant also aids in the treatment of acne and other related skin diseases. This is as a result of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory characteristics it possesses.

• According studies, the neem plant can also be used in the treatment of stomach ulcer. This is achieved by the use of the extract gotten from the bark of the neem plant and when taken into the body, reduces the acidic content in the stomach via secretion which tends to reduce the symptoms in the body.

• The neem plant also aids in the fight against plaque on human's teeth. It also prevent the gingivitis gum diseases.

The neem plant also aids in reducing the blood sugar levels in the human body. This is as a result of the chemicals contained in the extract of neem plant.

The neem's plant extract helps to fight oxidative stress which tend to promote good health of the kidney and liver. This is also as a result of the present of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory present in the plant's extract.

• The neem's leaf extract also aids in healing of wounds. It does so by aiding in the formation of new blood vessels and also increased inflammatory response in the human body.

• The neem plant also serves as an antimalarial drug due to the present of the active compound termed limonoids which aids in targeting the malaria infected cells in the body.

Yes, as we know there is always a side effect to every drug or medicine when it is wrongly taken or overdosed. So do the Neem plant's extract also has some side effects and they include the following:

• The need plant's extract shouldn't be taken orally as it can cause kidney failure and other diseases as well.

• Diabetic patients must first consult the medical doctor before consuming the neem plant's extract.

• Neem plant's extract should not be taken orally for over long period or shouldn't be overdose as it can also cause harm to the liver.

• There have some study cases which states that the overdose of neem plant's extract can lower sperm count in males.

• Lastly, it is not advisable for pregnant or breastfeeding mother to consume neem plant's extract.
