I would like to share with you today about an area of health that we all must take precautions on in order that, we all can have good health and animated living. I wish to share with you about Hypertension what most people call High Blood Pressure. I am of great conviction that this will help you.
High blood pressure commonly known to be hypertension. It is not a disease but only a symptom that indicates that some underlying disease is progressing. We also see high blood pressure (hypertension) as a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause high health problems, such as heart disease. Blood pressure is determined by both the amount of blood your heart groups and the amount of resistance to blood flow in your arteries.
The normal level of blood pressure is below 120/80mmHg. Where 120 represents systolic measurement( peak pressure in the arteries) and 80 represents the diastolic measurement( minimum pressure in the arteries)
TYPES OF HYPERTENSION
Primary essential- It is the common type with unknown cause. It is asymptomatic diastolic. It is usually 90-100 mmHg.
Secondary - Has a specific cause. Example eclampsia. The diastolic is between 110/120mmHg
Malignant - It is the advance stage of either primary or secondary hypertension. The diastolic is greater than 120mmHg
CAUSES OF HYPERTENSION
Heredity( genetic and family history of hypertension)
Obesity or overweight
Diabetes
Sedentary lifestyle
Excessive salt intake (sodium sensitivity)
smoking
Emotional stress
Alcoholism( High level of alcohol consumption)
Prevention of Hypertension
Reduce intake of animal fat, intestines, fatty meats, kidneys, brains, testis
Limit or stop alcohol consumption.
Avoid the intake of fizzy drinks like coca cola etc.
Drink cocoa beverages regularly and or eat chocolates for antioxidants
DIETARY MANAGEMENT
- Lower sugar and salt intake. A normal person takes in 10000miligram of salt.
Management
Mainly, the management of hypertension is possible by two ways, which includes;
- lifestyle modification
- Pharmacological therapy.
Lifestyle Modification
The lifestyle modification measures mainly includes
weight reduction
Dash diet (Which is a dietary approach to stop hypertension)
Dietary sodium reduction.
Reduce alcohol
Exercise
Stress management
