OnSteem Ghana - "Go into the old days and come out with one or two stories you have heard which really motivated and shaped your life in growing up as a child" by @goodspeed22 11/10/2021
Good day friends. How are we doing? I believe we fine. Below is my entry for the contest: Title of my story is: Learning In A Hard Way
My story centers on a family and how majority of them were saved. This childhood story was told by my mother and it lingers on my mind up to my adulthood. The object lesson is as fresh as if my mother is here repeating the story again every evening.
The characters are:
- the two sons
- their mother
- their father
- two unknown men
And the scene was in a farm on a rainy day.
The whole family went to the farm for their normal farming activities and it was a period of corn harvest. There was in the farm, farm house, which is usually a small shade built with old roofing sheets. It
servess as a hiding place from rain, for resting at intervals during farming activities and to store some of their produce and farming equipment.
On this fateful day, as they all were working, the cloud changed and there was a down pour of rain. So all four of them ran to the farm house for shelter from the rain. As they were in the shade, two unknown men came and join them in the shade.
The parents noticed that from their look, these men are kidnappers and killers. As a result, not knowing the way out, the mother quickly device a means for them to escape from the hands of these blood taste men.
The mother told the first son to go down the farm and get some fresh corn for these men, so that they can make fire and roost the corn for them (unknown men) to eat inspite of the rain. But the son refused to go down, complaining that it was raining. The mother had in mind of giving him a sign not to return but to run home from there. The first son did not read this important message from the mother's face and he stayed back.
She now call on the second son and openly sent him the same errand. This time, the boy went and he quickly understood the mother's sign and escaped from there.
There were all waiting for the boy to return with the corn. The boy delayed, but the parents knew that their son has escaped. As the son did not return, the mother asked the first son again to go and check on his brother, what could have happened, yet he was still reluctant to go.
Hence, the mother got up saying and calling on the boy, that he ought to have come back with the corn. So, she went down to find out what was the cause of the delay. This was a pretence of course, she escaped from there under the rain.
Meanwhile, the father, the first son and the two unknown men were eagerly anticipating their return, but it was in vain.
Thus, the father also says let me go and really find out what has happened to my son and my wife. He (father) got up and went down the farm and also took the same course of escape. The three of them ran home and were saved. The disobedient son was the only one left with the unknown men in the shade.
It was very clear to the kidnappers that the three of them has escaped. They turn to the boy and told him that he is a storbon and disobedient child as he refused to listen to the parents' instructions for his survival. They made away with him. Here ends my story.
The Lessons
Parents need to apply various methods like facial expressions (looking at a child straight in the eyes, blinking their eye lids several times, moving their lips in different directions) and other gestured to pass information quickly to their children and teach them to read and understand these signs, especially in times of emergency at any location.
Conclusion
The value of varying methods of training children has not changed. This story has lived with me even at the moment. I want to always come up with a quick and workable solutions in times of emergency and to help my children to read signs from me at all times.
Children need to listen, obey and be blessed.

To me training a child doesn’t have to be so rigid as different people have different beliefs of how one can raise his or her children. It’s just unfortunate that no matter what we try sometimes some kids will always be disobedient.
Thanks for sharing your story with us. I’ve learnt a lot from it.
Thanks for reading through my story.
Well how we bring up our kids is crucial to their survival on this planet called earth. Nice lessons shared
