Steem Ghana Contest; Some Jargons used on Steemit and their meaning.
As part of effective communication is to avoid unnecessary jargon and the usage on too many technical words more so when we're communicating to people if different field.
As I wrote in my last article on how to communicate effectively, I stressed on the need too avoid jargon for the purpose of clarity and understanding.
Avoid jargons, Colloquialism and ambiguity- This would help your listeners to identify and understand your messages since there's clarity in what ever you say. Many mistake people does is to load their speech with jargons and words that are not relevant to the audience more so, if the intended audience are of different background from the speaker. Such messages should be complete and accurate for everyone to understand. When communicating, we should not assume that the audience understand everything we say. so efforts must be made to explain all technical terms to the basic level where everyone would understand.

On several occasions, I have logged into steemit only to be confuse with several jargons and terminology that is difficult to grasp as a newbie. But as I progressed and started my achievement tasks and crypto homework, I began to understand some there terminologies used on the platform. I must admit that this terms can easily discourage you as a newbie and as such, we must endeavor to learn and understand what they stand for as we progress.
At this juncture, I'll be stating and explaining some of the terms and jargons used on the platform that I have come across and understand.
Newbie
The term "newbie" is used to describe a person that new to the steemit platform. This means that you are a fresher and knows nothing about the platform and how it operates. It can be described as the starting point or the infancy stage of every user/subscriber on steemit blockchain. Newbies tend to ask a lot of questions and make a lot of mistakes such as wrong tagging, plagiarism etc. They are usually treated with kids glove and are often pardon and guided by the old users or what i term as the laggards.
Pro-Newbie
Just like newbies, pro-newbies are those who knows some basic principles such as content etiquette, markdowns etc This is usually the transition stage where users are neither newbies nor mature users.
Steem Power (SP)
I am sure with the inception of #club5050, many newbies are overwhelmed with the usage of the term Steem Power..Now SP is the influence a user has on the platform. The more your SP, the more you become influential and earn more. Now lets assume you invest in a business where the profits would be shared among yourselves, when it is time to share the profits, each person is paid based on the amount of money invested in it. Those who has majority stake or share tend to be paid more and wield more influence on others that have low share. So basically, your SP allows you to earn more **rewards and helps sustain the blockchain since its is decentralize. Steem Power is earn through payouts, 100% power-up and a process called power up
Steem
This is token(money/coins) earn on the blockchain. Basically, it is the money you earn while on the platform. It is usually earn through contests.
Power-Up
This is converting your steem(cash) into stake(influence). This means that you are converting your steem that could be traded for more power of stake.
Steem Based Dollar (SBD)
This is a stable coins pegged to the USD that is usually earn through payouts set at 25% or 50/50. It is traded for the main token called steem. This means that apart form earning steem from a contest, the other way to earn steem is to trade your SBD for Steem tokens.
TRON(TRX)
This is another token earn through payouts that is usually proportional to you steem power. It could be traded on other exchange platforms like binance for fiat of other cryptos.
Resteem
This is sharing a content on your blog. Just like twitter where users retweets contents they 9identify with, steemit also allows users to resteem content to their blog and can be read by their followers.
Blog
This is like your wall or timeline where you can write anything you like and share with your followers.
Curation
Is reading a content carefully by verifying its source, how the heading "align" with the body, engaging with the content and deciding to upvote or down vote on the content.
Up-vote
This is the decision to vote on a content where you allot token on a content from your stake without it necessarily affecting your stake.
Down Vote
This is voting on a content based on how unsatisfactory it is to you. In this your rate the content low and does not give any tokens to the content.
#Club5050
This is another jargon recently introduce on the platform. With this, users need to power-up 50% of their each payouts within a month and qualify to the tag #club5050. This initiative is to help sustain the platform and allow users to accumulate more steem Powers. In the long run, it'll help the platform due to its decentralize nature to be self sustaining where users would vote on each others post and get more token due to voters steem power.
