Hello everyone.
When things go wrong, don’t go with them and I will like to give thanks and praises to the almighty God for adding me another day and I will like to take you guys on soil erosion.

WHAT IS SOIL EROSION

Soil erosion is the displacement of the upper layer of the soil or is a continuous process that occurs when the impact of the water or which wind unfasten or remove soil particles and causes the soil to decay or is the natural process which the topmost soil is washing away by the physical source such the water and wind
Examples of soil erosion are wind erosion, water erosion, temperature erosion, etc.

TYPE OF SOIL EROSION

Soil erosion is grouped into four main types and the following are some of the types of soil erosion

  • SHEET EROSION
Sheet erosion is also called sheet wash it occurs when the soil particle is carried constantly over the soil surface by rainwater that doesn’t penetrate the floor.
  • WIND EROSION
Wind erosion is a natural process that removes soil from one place to another place with the help of the wind and it occurs in the drying season.
  • RILL EROSION
Rill erosion occurs when runoff water from small channels as it directs the water down the slope.
  • GULLY EROSION
Gully erosion occurs when the runoff of the surface water causes the removal of soil with drainage lines.

WHAT IS THE CAUSES OF SOIl EROSION

The following are some of the causes of soil erosion and it is usually caused by both natural and artificial ways.

  • DEFORESTATION
This one the major causes of soil erosion, deforestation is the clearing or cutting down of tree by human and most of the time we cut down the tree for making of woods, etc and when we cut down this tree we don’t plant them back and the trees are important to the soil nutrients and when we cut them and we don’t plant them back it will start creating a small hole and it may lead to creating erosion in the forest.
  • THE USE OF CHEMICALS ON OUR FARMLANDS
Most of the farmers used chemicals on their crops in other to make them grow beyond their limit and most of these chemicals are causing problems to the farmland which will end up creating erosion.

  • RAINFALL AND FLOODING
When it rains heavily and when it rains for a long period it will start destroying our landscape and the higher the intensity of rainstorm which causes erosion.

WHAT IS THE EFFECT OF SOIL EROSION

Soil erosion naturally causes an effect on the landforms and the following are some of the effects of soil erosion

  • AVOID THE USE OF CHEMICALS
This one the effect of soil erosion once we stop using chemicals in our farmland the soil won’t lose its fertility so it will be difficult for erosion to occur in our farmland.

  • WATER POLLUTION
This is one of the effects of soil erosion because when it rains for a long period without stopping the rainwater will start to push waste product into our rivers etc which will lead to soil erosion.

  • Increasing runoff, shedding water and nutrients otherwise used for crop growth.

WAYS TO PREVENT SOIL EROSION

  • Prevention and rehabilitation
  • Ground cover
  • Retaining walls
  • Mulching
  • Maintaining a healthy and perennial plant cover.

It is important we take and ensure that these activities are prevented to ensure the soil from going or losing it nutrients.
