Cultural Inheritance in the North West Region of Cameroon by @doctor23
Hello highly esteemed #Steemians in this wonderful platform #Steemit, and great community #Steem-ghana
I will be sharing with you guys, particularly the process of cultural inheritance proceedings here in the north west region of cameroon.
It is true that the world is becoming a global village, i would not argue about it, as some of the facts here might come to relate with other culture of other countries and region.
Inheritance
Inheritance in simple terms is actually the taking over of a deceased persons property, maybe according to his will, or decided by family members, of sometimes forcefully taken by other individuals.
In the north west region, particularly the Balikumbat People, when some dies, his property will need to be inherited by the person he choosed before dieing. In 99% of such cases are always his or her children.
In this light, Males inherite males property, and females do that for female.
I will be sharing with you guys an inheritance ceremony here in Balikumbat, A Village in the North West Region of Cameroon
Inheritance Celebration
Before taking over someones property, you need to buy a goat atleast and feed family and friends in a ceremony, showing everyone you have accepted his property.
As seen in the pictures, the ceremony usually begins at about 8am, after cleaning of the compound.
Then the goat is handed to the family, and one person delegated to Cook the meat locally. A woman is not supposed to touch the pot, the meat is to be prepared out of the kitchen, in an open area.
No extra spices are to be used, just maggi, salt, and palm oil.
After cooking, the meat is then brought in front of everyone and shared.
After eating, a few incantations are made by elders of the community and their blessings given.
Interesting culture indeed, please lets not cc the curators and thanks for your entry, it was fun reading
