HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE CHIMPANZEE? 🐵🐵🐵

in Steem Ghana2 years ago (edited)

This post is to educate you on the anatomy of the chimpanzee.

Belonging to the kingdom Animalia, phylum Chordata, subphylum vertebrata, class Mammalia, subclass euthria, order primates. The common chimpanzee is humanity's closest living relative. Chimpanzees are bright and adaptable primates who live in African woods in intricate social groups. They are strong climbers who prefer to sleep and eat in the trees. They walk on four or two legs on the ground, leaving their hands free to carry food, children, or rudimentary tools.

Chimpanzees have a sturdy, tailless body that allows them to move quickly on four or two legs. With a short, expressive face, the head is small and round. A broad, barrel-shaped rib cage, a slouching upright posture, and arms that are much longer than the legs identify the skeleton. The skull has a prognathic (protruding) jaw but no forehead, chin, or pronounced sagittal crest.

The musculature of chimps is similar to that of other big apes. Both high power (as in the arms and shoulders) and tiny, nuanced movements require specialized muscles (as in the hands and face). Although the brain is enormous, it is just one-third the size of a human brain.

These bodily systems are quite similar to those of other big apes, such as humans, with which chimps share major ABO blood groups. A highly diversified diet involving vast quantities of ripe fruit, other plant material, and meat is processed by massive teeth, a simple stomach, and a short intestine.

Several years pass between the births of a single child or twins. Years of devoted parental care are required for the young, during which time skills are developed and intricate social relationships are created.
