Today we want to take a look at what is called shades and protective glasses, what their functional differences may be, what one ought to go in for, and why. As usual, you are welcome to ask all your question in the comment section and we will gladly attend to you. Happy reading...

Shades and Glasses

Well someone would say, shades are glasses too right? Because you get to wear them and you may even get to see the world in color for some. So for today's writing, we would use shade to represent not prescribed dark tinted glasses bought from the road or retailer in town whereas glasses would mean something given to you by the optometrist.

So when we wear dark tinted lenses what happens is that our eyes open up much like what happens in the darkness or a dark room, this is an automated response to allow more light into your eyes so you can see well in a dim environment. Now ideally the reason why your optometrist may recommend dark tints for you is so you could tolerate light a bit more.

This is normally done in highly photosensitive patients, you may not even need lens powers however this simple magic trick could make your life so much better, hence the giving out of photochromic lenses. People see others walk through the sun with their lenses appearing dark-tinted and decide to buy some by the roadside without consulting the Optometrist.

What happens is that the lenses prescribed by the Optometrist are made sure to have UV protection such that when the eyes open up to make vision better and light tolerable, UV that would have damaged the eyes more is kept at bay from entering the eyes. On the other hand, you buy shades from the roadside exposes you to more damage from UV because the eye opens up and most of these shades hardly have any UV protection.

In the end, you end up damaging your eyes and their health along the line just because you decided to be your Doctor and do your prescription and buy and took care of yourself.

Conclusion

Just as it is important to avoid over-the-counter medication, so is it important to avoid over-the-counter glasses thus not coming from a well-licensed and practicing Optometrist. Don't play poker with your ocular health. Damages are normally irreversible.
