Color Vision
Hello to you all,
We hope you are doing amazing and having a wonderful time, it is yet another session with bettervision and we do hope that you would have a good time with us and that you would enjoy today's discussion.
Before we move on though, we wish to remind our readers that we are basically advocating for healthy living and that our writeups are not a substitute for professional care. We would also like to remind you to take care and protect yourself as the various strains of Covid still lingers around.
What is vision?
When we talk about vision a whole lot of things go into it. Most often when people hear vision their thoughts linger on being able to see another person or read or how far their vision goes or how close things can be clear for them. Whiles this is a good definition of vision it is not an exhaustive definition because vision encompasses a whole lot and we would be taking a look at a particular part of it today.
But before we look at this particular aspect of vision let's see some of the components that entail vision. Some of these include contrast, color, binocular, depth perception, stereopsis, etc. Having issues with any of these could be detrimental to how well one enjoys the quality of their vision and how limited they may be with regard to certain things.
Unfortunately, we hardly focus on these aspects of vision also and we tend to only focus on visual acuity, which is how well one can see at far and near on say a bright sunny day. Not that this is bad in any way though considering the fact that refractive errors are some of the leading causes of preventable blindness across the globe however should we bring more focus to some of these other parameters many could have an improvement in the quality of life.
Color vision
When we talk about the color vision we are basically looking at our ability to perceive different colors. Color perception comes about as a result of the cells in the eye or in the retina known as cones and tend to come in 3 different types which work by accepting light from the wavelength of the 3 primary colors for us to see all the varies that we perceive and enjoy.
The interesting thing to know is that there are people walking around with some form of color blindness that they don't even know that they do. The thing about the brain and how it works is the fact that we learn to associate things and the brain learns this association and it becomes the norm for us.
And so someone may be seeing grey as green and this would be normal for them because from the word go the necessary anatomy that was to get that physiology was faulty and so the brain learned by association however the person was taught in school. Neuro is an interesting field indeed. But having any form of color blindness is not a disease or condition to worry about as it may be possible to correct with filter glasses.
But then you need to get yourself diagnosed and seen by an optometrist for a comprehensive examination. Color vision is critical and does a lot of good to our quality of life. So we want to admonish our readers today to visit their OD for a color vision. Know where you stand and what best can be done for you and you would rest assured of lots of goodness.
Conclusion
We hope that this write-up today adds up to your general knowledge of the eye and would help better your health advocacy in one way or the other. We are grateful for your time and your support always and we wish you the very best of luck in everything you do. Stay safe and have a wonderful time.
