Betterlife with Steem: Free Eye Screening Exercise
Hello all,
It is a pleasure to come your way once again with a brief report of our eye screening which was scheduled for the 5th of June, 2021 at the Asante Akyem Presby College. Our mission and our goals are geared towards universal eye care for all with particular focus on individuals who may otherwise not be able to care for their ocular health financial wise or may be in a deprived community.
The 3rd Sustainable Development Goal focuses on good health and well being which is crucial to students been able to study well and becoming the very best they can be in terms of their academic performance and so with this outreach focusing on students we hoped this would be achieved.
The Program started at 9am as usual and ended by 3pm over 100 participants were able to take a break from academic lessons to come participate in the event. Most students reported with refractive error cases which is a leading cause of blindness across the globe and in africa although it has a simple solution of a simple spectacle refraction and so those with simple correction were given glasses which we had and the complicated ones referred.
Other common conditions presented included Dry Eye Syndrome which was mainly due to the academic habits students exhibit. Glaucoma suspected cases were also referred for further testing and treatment to be administered. Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness without any symptoms and so these opportunistic diagnosis during outreaches go a long way to save sights.
It was a great time and good work done to support others and we look forward to more opportunities to be able to do more to help others. Until Next time thanks for reading and have wonderful time.
Thanks a lot for your conscious effort
