Hello Steemians. I'm super excited just because today is a Holiday. But let take a few moments to learn something small.

ME OBSERVING A SURGERY BEING DONE

Journey with me as I take you through some happenings at the theater. It is a place where I've learned some unique nursing skills. It's a place I become humbled as a human being. It's a place my respect and appreciation for health workers: Surgeons, doctors, nurses, and anesthetists even rose to a more magnifying level. These people are superheroes who have to be applauded.

Let first look at what the theater is and what is done there.

A Theater is a section or department in the hospital where surgeries or surgical procedures are done. At the 37Millitary hospital, the main theater has 4 operation rooms thus, an operating room for orthopedic surgeries (bone), earn,nose and teeth surgeries, General surgeries, and an operating room for pediatrics. Aside from the operating rooms, the theater has the recovery unit where patients who have undergone surgeries are monitored and being dispatched to their various wards after they have been made stable and recovered fully from anesthesia.

Let look at some health personnel's at the theater and what they do

The Surgeon and the doctor: The surgeon is the one who performs the surgery. They are medical practitioners who have specialized in performing surgeries. The doctors are also medical practitioners but assist the surgeon during the performance of every surgery.

The Scrub Nurse: The scrub nurse ensures the sterility of instruments, prepares and counts sterile instruments to be used before and after the surgery. This is to prevent the instrument from being dislodged in the patient's body after surgery. They assist the surgeon during the surgery by picking instruments for the surgeon as and when requested.

STERILE INSTRUMENTS

The Circulating Nurse: They ensure that the consent form has been signed by the patient and work around the none sterile field. They run errands during surgery.

A CIRCULATING NURSE

The Anesthetist: These are people who give anesthesia to the patient. They ensure that the patient becomes unconscious or feels no pain throughout the surgery. They either administer local, general or spinal anesthesia depending on the type of surgery being performed. They also ensure that patients vital signs are stable throughout the surgery.

The dress code for the theater is scrubbed, crocs with shocks, and a headcover. These are the appropriate apparel to the theater.
