THE THEME OF THE DAY DAILY CHALLENGE: MONDAY= NON-FICTION @dilchamo

Hello everyone,

How are you all? I hope you all are having the ability of reading books these days more than other busy days. I personally got more time to spend on books rather than busy working days before the pandemic situation. So today’s theme is about nonfiction genre. I wanted to share very old memory of my reading career. Under the theme today I will share a review about “I know why the caged bird sings” which is an autobiography of the writer of the book “Maya Angelou”. When I was doing my advanced level examination we were asked to read this book by our teachers. Still in schools and universities this book is under their teaching curriculum because of its literature value. So let’s review the book.

The book starts from the story of Maya in her age of 3 years and her brother. In the whole story she discusses about the challenges and obstacles that she had to face until the age of 17 years. Maya and her brother were lived with their grandparents. As she they were African Americans they were subjected to racism by all their neighbors. When she went to meet a white dentist to get treatments to her toothache she was rejected by the doctor. While living under many social rejections Maya and her brother was taken back to their mother by their father. But sadly her parents were separated and they have separate life partners. At the age of eight Maya was raped by her mother’s boyfriend. Later he was murdered by Maya’s uncles. She was so silent after that incident. After some time she got a scholarship to study drama and dancing in George Washington high school.

While studying she worked as a cable car conductor and sometimes a taxi driver. She often visits her father as well. But she was not happy with the actions of his father’s girlfriend. She had to undergo the feeling of homelessness because she has lost the love of parents and were abused physically and mentally by the patents’ life partners.

In the final year of high school she met a teenage boy and started a relationship with him. Before finishing the high school studies she became pregnant. Her brother knew about it and she had to hide from the family members until she delivers the baby and she needs to finish the final examination in the high school.

After graduating from the high school she gave birth to the baby at the age of 17. The book also ends after the birth of the baby.

This book has a literature value which says about the difficulties that African Americans had to face when living among white society. The cruelty of white people also depicted from the story. The book was later subjected to many editions and rewrites.

So that’s all about the book today. Thank you for reading and I will come up with another interesting review next day. Thank you @event-horizon for the contest.
