(Spanish / English) Weekly Contest. "Photographing Cathedral Church Week #1". /Concurso Semanal. "Fotografiando Iglesia Catedral, Semana #1

Presento mi candidatura al concurso con un reportaje de la Catedral Imperial de Frankfurt. La catedral de esta ciudad alemana, capital económica de Europa dicen, está dedicada a San Bartolomé y tanto el aspecto exterior como el interior ha variado bastante a lo largo de la historia, debido a los sucesivos avatares bélicos y accidentales. A mediados del siglo XIX un incendio la destruyó casi por completo y su reconstrucción le dio más o menos el aspecto que tiene ahora. Pero la historia reciente le tenía deparado otro gran desastre, a finales de la segunda guerra mundial, la ciudad fue bombardeada sin piedad por los aliados y el edificio quedó prácticamente destruido. Seis años más tarde se volvió inaugurar la que a día de hoy se puede contemplar. En su interior a modo de museo se guardan algunas de las obras de arte sacro gótico más importantes de Alemania.

En el momento de hacer el reportaje me fue imposible hacer fotos del exterior, puesto que estaba completamente tapado con lonas y andamios por labores de restauración y mantenimiento.

I am submitting my entry for the competition with a report about the Imperial Cathedral in Frankfurt. The cathedral of this German city, the economic capital of Europe they say, is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew and both the exterior and the interior have changed a lot throughout history, due to the successive vicissitudes of war and accidents. In the mid-19th century a fire almost completely destroyed it and its reconstruction gave it more or less the appearance it has today. But recent history had another great disaster in store for it. At the end of the Second World War, the city was mercilessly bombed by the Allies and the building was practically destroyed. Six years later, the building that can still be seen today was reopened. Inside, as a museum, some of Germany's most important works of Gothic sacred art are housed.

At the time of reporting it was impossible for me to take photos of the exterior, as it was completely covered with tarpaulins and scaffolding due to restoration and maintenance work.
