CATTOLICA DI STILO, another interesting point of interest in Calabria ...

Another point of interest that struck me during my stay in Calabria is the Cattolica di Stilo, this strange building that stands at the foot of Mount Consolino between spurs of rocks and caves inhabited long ago by Eremiti.
This strange sacred building of cubic shape, was built between the ninth and tenth centuries, almost all in brick, we can see the coverage of the five domes, among which the central one stands out in height.

Even today the locals explained to me, the use of this building is not known, some say it was a religious building that was part of the Byzantine world, who saw it as the oldest cathedral in the country and who instead he considered it a point of reference for the monks who lived in the surrounding caves, while some interpret it as the center of a larger complex at the monastic level which then went into ruin.

However beyond its use it certainly leaves us inside the beautiful frescoes and beautiful memories of how it shone in its best years.
